ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, in June, is going to feel different. For the first time in the history of the cricket World Cups – both 50-over and 20-over versions – the deaf and visually impaired people of country will be able to experience their favourite sport better than ever as the broadcasters – Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar – have added features to interpret live commentary for those who can’t hear or see.
Disney Star has joined hands with India Signing Hands (ISH), a Mumbai-based broadcast company, to add Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpretation to its feed. There will be an audio descriptive feed for the visually impaired fans.
The announcement was made on the Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which is observed on the third Thursday of May.
The ISL feature is already being used by Star Sports for the IPL, but Disney+ Hotstar will become the first OTT platform to make it available for live cricket commentary.
“I am confident that it will open doors to the exciting world of cricket to many more people from the Deaf and Visually Impaired communities,” Alok Kejriwal, Founder and CEO of ISH News, said in a press statement. “This collaboration is really close to my heart since it makes the sport truly accessible and inclusive."
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is an estimated 63 million community of deaf and 40 million community of visually impaired individuals in India.
«We are thrilled to embrace accessibility features making the World Cup available to more fans of the sport. With
