«If there is a sweep of any kind, then of course, you will get a result fifth night itself, otherwise it may take sixth or even seventh. So, perhaps I will be there in time for the actual result in the USA,» says Swaminathan Aiyar, Consulting Editor, ET Now.
Are you in India? That is what I have been told. Welcome to India.
Swaminathan Aiyar: I am in India, but I am flying to the USA tonight.
So, would you reach in time to watch the election?
Swaminathan Aiyar: Unfortunately, I made this booking before I had taken into account, so I am going to be in the air, but let us face it, we do not know whether we will get an election result in one day. Almost certainly on the fifth night in America, I do not think you will get a result because it is so close, it will spill over to probably the morning or even the afternoon of the sixth. And when that happens, in fact, there are two or three states where the counting is manual and where the counting can continue even for a day or two more if those turn out to be critical states. So, let us not assume. I mean, if there is a sweep of any kind, then of course, you will get a result fifth night itself, otherwise it may take sixth or even seventh. So, perhaps I will be there in time for the actual result in the USA.
Why is everybody calling it too close to call? I mean, like they say in Hindi, kante ki takkar hai.
Swaminathan Aiyar: This is true, in fact, of most US elections. You will find that the polls are plus-minus 3% is the thing and very rarely is the margin of victory
