Swipe, Date & Dhokha! How an IAS aspirant's Cafe date via Tinder cost him Rs 1.2 lakh in Delhi
Black Mirror Cafe in East Delhi's Vikas Marg area to celebrate her birthday, a TOI report stated.
A Costly Birthday Celebration
At the cafe, the couple ordered snacks, two cakes, and four shots of a non-alcoholic beverage. The evening took a sharp turn when Versha abruptly left, citing a family emergency. When the man received the bill, he was shocked to see a charge of Rs 1,21,917, an amount far exceeding the cost of the ordered items.
Forced to Pay Under Threat
Despite disputing the bill, the victim was threatened, confined, and forced to pay. He was confined and beaten up in one of the cozy cabins and forced to pay up. He transferred the amount online to Akshay Pahwa, one of the cafe's owners. Pahwa, 32, a Shahdara resident, has studied until Class 10. Once released, the victim reported the incident to the police.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Inspector Sanjay Gupta led a four-member police team to investigate. They quickly apprehended Pahwa. During questioning, Pahwa disclosed that the Black Mirror Cafe is co-owned by him, Ansh Grover, and his cousin Vansh Pahwa. He also mentioned several «table managers» employed at the cafe, managed by a person named Digranshu.
The Modus Operandi
Pahwa identified Versha as Afsan Parveen, 25, who also uses the names Ayesha and Noor. Afsan Parveen spent her days job hunting, but by night, her activities took a darker turn. Allegedly, she ensnared men on dating platforms like Tinder and Bumble, luring them to obscure cafes where she would vanish after a brief encounter.
