Imphal East in Manipur marched on Thursday demanding the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SOO) with militants.
The police stopped the rally which started from Sambei ground. There is apprehension that SOO agreement with militant outfits might be extended further.
A team met the Governor to submit a memorandum. The memorandum raised the urgent necessity to abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SOO) between the Government of India (GOI) and 24 Kuki Militant Groups to reinstate normalcy in Manipur while highlighting violations of the SOO agreements by Kuki militant groups since the onset of the crisis on May 3, 2023.
The memorandum also alleged that SOO cadres are implicated in the ongoing conflict, drug trafficking, and narco-terrorism. It discussed the establishment of a ‘Golden Triangle’ in Manipur and the influx of Chin Kuki Zo immigrants from Myanmar, resulting in demographic changes and unauthorized Kuki villages.
Furthermore, the memorandum asserted evidence of foreign Chin Kuki Zo militant groups supporting SOO cadres, posing a threat to India’s internal security emphasizing the challenges faced by the people of Manipur, including highway blockades and various harassments by SOO cadres.
The memorandum appealed for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation with Kuki militants and the expulsion of foreign narco-terrorists from Indian soil. It emphasized that this step is crucial to ending the nine-month-long conflict and ensuring the security of the country.
