Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, is reportedly developing a 14,400-square-foot mansion to accommodate his large family. According to the New York Times, Musk aims to live with his 11 children and two of their three mothers in adjacent properties, allowing his younger children to grow up together and enabling Musk to spend time with them.
The total cost of these properties is around $35 million. Musk has also purchased a six-bedroom mansion nearby, about a 10-minute walk from the main villa, where he often stays.
Musk’s Family
- Justine Musk: Elon Musk’s first wife, with whom he had six children. Their first child, Nevada, passed away in infancy. They later had five children through IVF: twins Griffin and Vivian, and triplets Saxon, Damian, and Kai.
- Talulah Riley: Musk married and divorced actress Talulah Riley twice. Their relationship ended partly due to Riley’s career focus.
- Claire Boucher (Grimes): Musk and Boucher had their first child, X Æ A-Xii, in 2020. They later had more children together.
- Shivon Zilis: Musk also has children with Zilis.
The Compound
Initially, Musk planned to build a family compound on hundreds of acres near Tesla’s headquarters in Austin. However, this plan fell through after the Justice Department began investigating whether Tesla’s resources were used to build a glass house for Musk’s personal use.
In August 2023, Musk denied building any house, but he continued to search for homes in Austin to fit his growing family. He lived with Boucher in a 6,900-square-foot house until she moved out in the summer of 2023 amid a custody battle.
It’s unclear which family members will live in the new homes. Some of Musk’s older children, including his transgender daughter Vivian, are not close to him.
