The vice president has ridden a wave of support and enthusiasm since Harris entered the race after Joe Biden withdrew after a disastrous debate performance that highlighted concerns over his age and mental faculty. This has completely changed the course of the race. What had been a strong but narrow Trump lead turned into a Harris lead. There are indications that Harris's upward trend may have reached a ceiling as she prepares for her first debate as a presidential contender.
In the meantime, Trump will be hoping that the debate presents an opportunity for his campaign to regain some traction.
