Donald Trump has declined an invitation from CNN to engage in a second debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, scheduled for October 23, just days before the US election. Trump, while addressing his supporters at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, over the weekend, said that it was «too late» to participate, given that voting had already begun.
He also doubts whether CNN would treat him fairly, citing past experiences, as per a report by USA Today.
The decision comes after Harris had publicly accepted the debate invitation, hoping that Trump would join her on stage for a second time. In her tweet, Harris expressed her readiness to confront the former president again.
At the Wilmington rally, Trump explained his reluctance, pointing out that he had already participated in two debates and believed there was no need for another. “It’s just too late—voting has already started,” Trump told his supporters. He further questioned CNN’s ability to host a fair debate, suggesting that the network might not give him a balanced platform.
Trump’s remarks were met with cheers from his supporters, who have long been skeptical of mainstream media, including CNN.
