baby crocodile was discovered taking a dip in the BMC Mahatma Gandhi Swimming Pool in Dadar on Tuesday morning, leaving swimmers in a state of alarm. The incident occurred during the early hours when swimming instructors noticed the reptile enjoying a swim in the expansive pool, just before the usual crowd of swimmers was expected to dive into the cool waters.
Local resident and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Spokesperson Sandeep Deshpande expressed concerns regarding the safety of the swimmers and demanded answers about how the crocodile managed to find its way into the swimming pool.
He said, «From where the crocodile came into the swimming pool» needs to be investigated.
An instructor informed the media that a few weeks ago, a snake had also entered the same swimming pool, which happens to be one of the largest facilities operated by the civic body in Mumbai, causing a significant panic among the swimmers.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the baby crocodile may have bitten a civic employee at the pool; however, officials have chosen not to comment on this matter.
Subsequently, a team from the wildlife authorities promptly arrived at the scene and successfully captured the reptile, allowing the swimming pool to be reopened for swimmers. The BMC has initiated an investigation to determine how and from where the crocodile managed to enter the swimming pool.
