This comes after previous closures of the highway due to heavy rainfall in the Lambagad and Khachada drains in Chamoli.
As a result of the highway closure, commuters, including pilgrims and tourists traveling to and from the famous Badrinath shrine, have been stranded. On Saturday, vehicle movement on the highway had to be restricted again due to a rise in the water level in the Khachdu drain near Lambagad in Uttarakhand. The closure of the Badrinath National Highway 7 (NH-7) specifically impacted the Lambagad and Khachada drains in Chamoli district. After more than 17 hours of closure, the Badrinath National Highway was reopened for traffic. Throughout the night, numerous pilgrims were forced to spend the night in their vehicles as a result of the blockade.
Additionally, a landslide on the Chandigarh-Manali highway between Mandi and Kullu also led to road blockage, leaving numerous commuters stranded. Aerial images of the area depicted hundreds of people stuck on the roads due to the landslide. (With inputs from ANI)
