Vivek Ramaswamy has made a plea for the United States to create its own missile defense system, drawing inspiration from Israel's Iron Dome. The Indian origin billionaire believes in the necessity of such a system to protect the nation from external threats, particularly in light of the advanced missile capabilities possessed by countries like Russia.
In his further argument, he pointed out the fact that Russia possesses hypersonic missile capabilities that outmatch those of the United States.
Ramaswamy stressed the urgency of this matter, highlighting the vulnerability of the US to emerging threats, with hypersonic missiles having the capability to reach American soil. He firmly believes that it's high time the country invests in a robust missile defense system to safeguard our homeland.
Furthermore, Ramaswamy didn't hold back in criticizing the allocation of the national defense budget.
He said, «The foreign policy establishment has allocated our national defense budget to virtually everything except protecting our homeland.»
Israel's iron dome
Israel's iron dome is an advanced technology can effectively intercept and neutralize short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 to 70 kilometers (approximately 2.5 to 43 miles). It functions by utilizing radar to detect incoming projectiles and subsequently launching interceptor missiles to eliminate these threats while they are still in the air, well before they can reach their intended targets on the ground.
However, the idea of implementing a system like this in the US poses complex challenges.
