ARTEMIS, which stands for ‘Advanced Robotic Technology for Enhanced Mobility and Improved Stability’. According to Daily Star, this robot is designed to play soccer with aspirations to rival top players like Lionel Messi.
Daily Star reported that ARTEMIS can walk at a speed of 2.1 meters per second which makes it potentially the fastest walking humanoid robot. It is equipped with actuators that mimic biological muscle while allowing for more fluid movements compared to traditional robots.

Currently, ARTEMIS is preparing for the RoboCup which is an international autonomous robot soccer competition with a long-term goal of competing against human World Cup champions by the year of 2050, noted Daily Star. In spite of its impressive capabilities, recent demonstrations revealed that ARTEMIS struggles with basic soccer skills while often missing the ball during practice sessions.
The robot has been showcased at tech events like GITEX 2023 where it exhibited pretty limited success in kicking the ball, asserted Daily Star. While ARTEMIS is not yet ready for professional play, its development represents significant progress in robotics and AI.
