Paneer is one of the favourite foods in India, both for vegetarians and even non-vegetarians. Being one of the most important sources of protein, it invariably finds its way into people's thali almost every day. However, a picture is doing the rounds on the internet, which might put you off, and you may think twice before buying non-branded paneer, which is available from local shops without any packaging.
In the viral picture, a man in a lungi is seen sitting on a pile of paneer, which is otherwise known as Indian cottage cheese.
The picture has the text «KanpurUP.However, the exact origin of the picture is not known.
»Never buying non branded paneer after seeing this," wrote a Twitter user, Azhar Jafri, who shared the picture on the social network.
The post has gotten over 60,000 views.
Commenting on the post, one user wondered, «What if this paneer is packed/branded and sold?»
Jafri, however, insisted that branded paneer is mostly safe.
«I think branded is made in a hygeinic way. Or u can say I hope it is,» he wrote.
Many users said that people should make paneer at home instead of buying non-branded paneer.
Another Twitter user, however, questioned the safety of both branded and non-branded products.
«No idea. who is making it good. branded or non-branded.
All is not well,» wrote a person named Dilbag Koundal.
Another person pointed out that most dhabas and food carts use only non-branded paneer.
