The Bill is passed.» Lok Sabha, which took up discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, passed it past midnight after a marathon debate. The government introduced the revised bill after incorporating the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which examined the legislation introduced in August last year. The bill seeks to amend the Act of 1995 and improve the administration and management of Waqf properties in India.

Enforcement Directorate on Friday conducted searches at offices of Kerala-based businessman Gokulam Gopalan, one of the producers of the movie "L2: Empuraan", and some others as part of an alleged foreign exchange violation case, official sources said. The searches are being undertaken in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Kochi (Kerala) under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), the sources said.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been awarded a contract by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for Operation and Maintenance of three corridors of its Phase-II: Corridor-3 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri SIPCOT-II Metro — Indigo Line), Corridor- 4 (Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass -Orange Line) and Corridor-5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur — Red Line) including Maintenance Depots at Madhavaram, Poonamallee & Semmancheri. The term of the contract is 12 years from date of Commercial Operation date of the last stage of Phase II. An official statement said DMRC will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of three corridors consisting of 116.1 Kms and 112 stations.

Sweet Karam Coffee (SKC) announced on Thursday that it has raised $8 million in Series A funding from Peak XV Partners and existing investor Fireside Ventures. Founded in 2015 by husband-wife duo Anand Bharadwaj and Nalini Parthiban, the Chennai-based Sweet Karam Coffee offers South Indian sweets, snacks, filter coffee, and everyday essentials. It claims these snacks are free of palm oil and preservatives. Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has given workspace solutions provider IndiQube the green light for its initial public offering (IPO). The company, which is backed by WestBridge Capital, had filed a draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) last December seeking to raise Rs 850 crore through the IPO. This comprises Rs 750 crore in fresh capital and Rs 100 crore in an offer for sale. Founders Rishi Das and Meghna Aggarwal plan to sell shares worth Rs 100 crore through the offer-for-sale segment. According to online news platform Entracker, IndiQube intends to use Rs 427 crore of the fresh funds on capital expenditure, Rs 100 crore to repay or prepay existing loans, and the rest on general corporate activities.

This is well above the scheme target to subsidise 14,028 e-buses with a funding support of ₹4,391 crore. «The newly formed Delhi government is expected to raise a significant demand for e-buses. Orders from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata are awaited as well,» a senior official told ET, while adding that the government may lower the per e-bus subsidy for catering to more cities.

Indian Bank on Monday announced an increase in lending rate linked to repo rate by 10 basis points to 9.05 per cent, making retail loans expensive. The Asset Liability Management Committee (ALCO) of the bank has reviewed the Marginal Cost of funds-based Lending Rate (MCLR), Treasury Bills Linked Lending Rates (TBLR), Base Rate, Benchmark Prime Lending Rate (BPLR) and Repo Linked Benchmark Lending Rates (RBLR) and decided for revision in TBLR, Base Rate, BPLR and RBLR, Indian Bank said in a regulatory filing. Repo Linked Benchmark Lending Rates (RBLR) has been raised to 9.05 per cent from the existing 8.95 per cent, it said. The lending rate hike comes despite the Reserve Bank cutting repo rate from 6.5 per cent to 6.25 per cent last month.

SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed at Nirgundi near Manguli at 11.54 am, chief public relations Officer of the East Coast Railways, Ashok Mishra, said. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Suvankar Roy of Alipurdwar in West Bengal, railways said, adding that the youth jumped from the train after the derailment and died. The railways authorities were waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the death, an official said. The East Coast Railways said one female passenger suffered grievous injury and two other male passengers are being treated for simple injury. The train was heading to Kamakhya station in Assam's Guwahati from Bengaluru and the accident happened on the down line of the Howrah-Chennai route, affecting train services, officials said.
