Delhi High Court has allowed a 31-year-old woman to undergo medical termination of her pregnancy of over 32 weeks due to the foetus's abnormalities, which posed a substantial risk of physical and mental handicap. Justice Sanjeev Narula, allowing the woman's plea seeking permission to undergo an abortion, said the continuation of the pregnancy poses a significant risk to the petitioner's physical and mental health and is likely to result in the birth of a child with severe health issues. The judge, following a report given by the doctors of AIIMS, concluded that permitting the termination of the pregnancy was in the best interest of both the petitioner and the foetus. «In the opinion of the court, the diagnosis in the present case clearly qualifies as substantial foetal abnormality with substantial risk of physical and mental handicap,» the court said in its order passed on July 13.

Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a fraudster who lured victims into participating in simple online tasks with the promise of earning a huge amount of money. A complaint was received at the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) when Akshay Kumar Singh, a resident of Dwarka, alleged that he had received a message on his telegram account on November 23 regarding a part-time job. The accused person had asked to make an account on the alleged website to buy and sell crypto currency. Additionally, some prepaid tasks were assigned to the complainant and as per the instructions of the accused, the complainant invested Rs 20,16,640 in prepaid tasks from November 23 to November 24.

These tier-I cities, which have a large concentration of gig working opportunities, saw 63.11 per cent job applications originating from these urban hubs, a report by tech-enabled blue-collar workforce recruitment platform WorkIndia said. Tier-II cities saw 26 per cent of such job openings and accounted for 25 per cent of applications, indicating balanced growth potential, the report said. However, tier-III cities exhibited a lower proportion of job openings (6.7 per cent) compared to 11 per cent applications, hinting at heightened competition amidst an oversupply of gig workers, the report stated.

revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra will initiate the process of selection and appointment of judicial and technical members for the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) after the presentation of the budget, officials said. The central government is aiming to make the tribunal functional by the end of November and has already initiated the process of shifting anti-profiteering cases to the GSTAT principal bench from the Competition Commission of India (CCI). «We are putting all efforts to make the principal bench operational by the end of November and the process of selection and appointment will start immediately after the budget,» a senior government official told ET. Separately, a technical team is working on a dedicated online portal for electronic filing of appeals, officials said, adding that the portal will be ready by September.

interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money-laundering case, after the AAP termed it a «victory of truth» and «defeat of the BJP's conspiracy». The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Kejriwal in a money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged excise policy scam but he will remain in jail as the CBI had arrested him in a related matter. A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta referred to a larger bench, preferably of five judges, for in-depth consideration of three questions on the aspect of «need and necessity of arrest» under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Rijiju said, «There are reports that Kejriwal has got relief. This is not true. The Supreme Court has vindicated the action taken by the ED.»

Kishori Lal Sharma, Congress leader and a Member of Parliament (MP) from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, on Saturday, backed party MP Rahul Gandhi's remarks on former Amethi MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani, in which he targeted the trollers using derogatory languages against her. Delhi Police has filled around 600 FIRs every day under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), arresting about 22 individuals daily, reported ToI. Between July 1 and July 10, the police officials have lodged nearly 6,334 FIRs, including 1,074 offline FIRs, 1,059 e-motor vehicle theft FIRs, and 4,201 e-property theft FIRs. Among these, 178 cases saw resolution, leading to the apprehension of 225 suspects. «Thefts were registered more frequently, followed by snatchings, accidents, hurt and burglary,» said a police official on FIRs under new laws. Additionally, 147 FIRs were filed daily under the former IPC laws, with 1,471 FIRs filed from July 1 to July 10, consisting of 383 offline, 135 e-motor vehicle theft, and 953 e-property theft cases. Of these, 32 cases were resolved, resulting in 45 arrests.
