Rs 4.5 crore refund to DMRC: Supreme Court issues notices to Reliance Infra Co, Axis Bank
Supreme Court on Wednesday sought response from Reliance Infrastructure-owned Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL), Axis Bank and their managing directors as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for failing to comply with an order to return more than ₹4,500 crore, including interest, to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). DMRC had filed a contempt-of-court petition against DAMEPL and Axis Bank, accusing them of «wilfully disobeying» the court's order to refund the amount that the corporation had deposited in an escrow account against an arbitration award. The apex court had in April set aside the 2017 arbitration award. A bench led by Justice Surya Kant, however, exempted the top brass of DAMEPL and Axis Bank from personal appearance before it.

Facial Recognition Technology leads to arrest of impostor behind Rs 75 lakh bank loan fraud
Delhi Police has arrested three people who secured a loan of Rs 75 lakh by mortgage a property by preparing forged documents, officials said on Wednesday. The police arrested Pankaj Sachdeva alias Roshan Manchanda (61), who had fabricated property documents and identification credentials to secure the loan. The arrest also exposed the involvement of two accomplices, Suhail Chauhan and Nitin Verma, who worked as freelance loan agents. According to the police, the case was registered in 2019 on the complaint of Harminder Kaur Anand, a Bengaluru-based resident, who alleged that the property she purchased in 2011 at Rana Pratap Bagh in northwest Delhi had been fraudulently mortgaged to a private bank for a loan of Rs 75 lakh. «The woman was shocked to learn about the fraud during a visit to the property in 2018 when neighbours reported suspicious activities and her son-in-law discovered a loan notice pasted on the property,» Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Abhishek Dhania said.

Mini Bengalurus: Why govt wants tech hubs in Tier II, III towns
Bengaluru Rising report, released by the UnboxingBLR Foundation during the Bengaluru Tech Summit, highlighted the city’s economic growth, lifestyle advantages and global appeal. Bengaluru has positioned itself as an economic powerhouse, ranking third in company formations after Mumbai and Delhi, with over 27,000 new companies registered between 2012 and 2023. It has also added 80 million square feet of Grade A office space, generating 800,000 jobs—the highest among Indian cities. In the startup ecosystem, Bengaluru remains unmatched. On average, the city has seen 1,400 startups emerge annually over the last decade, trailing only Delhi NCR’s 2,100 yearly average. It also leads the nation in startup funding and the creation of unicorns, reinforcing its reputation as India’s entrepreneurial hub in addition to being its own Silicon Valley. But it seems Bengaluru is getting saturated with its phenomenal growth. Though it may seem nearly impossible to build another Bengaluru in India, a lot of mini Bengalurus can sprout across the country in coming years.
