‘No consequences’: Canadian Sikhs allege widespread threats, spying by India
foreign interference inquiry on Thursday describe widespread threats and harassment of Canadian Sikhs by the government of India, much of it coordinated by diplomatic missions.Witnesses told the Hogue Commission behind closed doors India had threatened their families, spied on temples and meddled in Canada’s elections, according to the newly unsealed documents.India “interferes in Canada because there is no reason not to,” one witness told the commission, adding that “the Canadian government has been largely impotent in the face of interference.”“There have been no consequences.”The documents summarize hundreds of written submissions received from Canadians during public consultations and meetings with more than 100 members of diaspora communities. They included Chinese, Iranian and Ukrainian participants, but the statements of Sikh Canadians are particularly noteworthy, providing a community-level view of the alleged tactics of the Indian government.Indian foreign interference has seen “an acceleration” since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, with high-ranking officials vowing that “dissidents in other countries would be eliminated,” one witness said.Canada has labeled India the second most serious foreign interference threat to the country, behind only China.

The Champions Trophy jigsaw puzzle: A breakdown of the options India could consider in the weeks leading up to the CT25
ODI series against England could serve as a dress rehearsal for under-pressure India. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s form under scrutiny, Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and doubts over Mohammed Shami’s return, it is a rare white-ball tournament where India would be considered favourites. The shift in expectations might not be a bad thing for the Indian men’s cricket team in the current circumstances. Before that, India have to make certain decisions regarding their personnel. Here is a role-wise breakdown of the options that the selectors could consider while picking up the squad: OPENERS: ROHIT, GILL, JAISWAL Rohit and Shubman Gill are likely to be the first-choice options going into the tournament. Rohit has been a stellar performer in white-ball cricket. His redball woes notwithstanding, the captain can well rediscover his mojo in the 50-over format. It was his efforts at the 2023 World Cup that helped India get off to flying starts and he will want to do the same in Dubai, where India will play their Champions Trophy matches. Gill, however, needs to be more consistent. While he deserves his place in the starting eleven, he will know that a few bad games could result in Yashasvi Jaiswal getting a look in. In that sense, the Champions Trophy is a big test for Gill as well. Jaiswal is going to be India’s back-up opener to start with. He offers the left-hand option that India miss in the top order.

Gautam Sinha, founder and creative director of artisanal leather brand Nappa Dori that also makes travel luggage, flies frequently within India and to Dubai, London, and Sri Lanka to manage his many stores. He is concerned that it will be a major disadvantage to travellers, and says, “It has been proven by the experience of similar structures in European and American budget airlines that the consumer ends up paying a lot more for a basic flight.” One thing he is sure of: “It will definitely make people think more before they pack now.”

According to a TOI report, the house was owned by businessman Dhirendra Shrivastava, who has been living in Dubai for the past six months. The house had a room, kitchen, and toilet on the right side, while the left side contained two bedrooms and a hall. The two sides were connected by a staircase that led to the upper floor, which remained in Shrivastava's possession. In July 2024, Balveer Rajput, a resident of Ingoria in Ujjain, rented the ground floor. He had repeatedly asked the landlord, who was in Dubai, to unlock another room for his family, which included his wife and two children aged 10 and 11, as the room had been kept locked by the previous tenant. Eventually, the landlord gave permission to unlock the room.

Trump's 'Made in USA' Bitcoin is a promise impossible to keep
Trump made the pledge in a post on his Truth Social account in June after meeting at Mar-a-Lago with a group of executives from crypto miners, the companies whose massive, high-tech data centers do the work that facilitates transactions on the blockchain in exchange for compensation paid in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. The gathering was a key juncture in Trump's transformation from a crypto skeptic to one of the industry's strongest allies. «It is a Trump-like comment but it is definitely not in reality,» said Ethan Vera, chief operating officer at Seattle-based Luxor Technology, which provides software and services to miners.
