Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday said 97.92 per cent of the Rs 2000 denomination banknotes have returned to the banking system, and only Rs 7,409 crore worth of the withdrawn notes are still with the public. On May 19, 2023, the RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 denomination banknotes from circulation. The total value of Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation, which was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, when the withdrawal was announced, has declined to Rs 7,409 crore at the close of business on July 31, 2024. «Thus, 97.92 per cent of the Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation as on May 19, 2023, has since been returned,» the central bank said in a statement.

Watertech startup Boon has raised $5 million in a funding round led by Spanish Roca Group Ventures, its first-ever investment in India, with participation from others. Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal from the Tata Sons to build a 'museum of temples' in Ayodhya at a cost of Rs 650 crore. Sharing details about the decision, Tourism Minister Jaivir Singh said the tourism department would provide the company land for the international-level museum on a 90-year lease for a token money of Re 1. «Tata Sons had proposed the project through the Central government, offering to build the museum at a cost of Rs 650 crore under its corporate social responsibility fund,» Singh said at a press meet here after the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The cabinet also okayed the company's proposal for other development works in the temple town for additional Rs 100 crore, he added.

Indian chipmaker, which has developed solutions for direct broadcasting of content on mobile phones, has termed a recent report of the telecom department's technical wing on the tech standards for the service as «rigged, favouring multinationals» and against strategic and national interests. The Telecommunications Engineering Centre (TEC) report has suggested that 3GPP 5G broadcast standards — backed by global chipmakers Qualcomm and Samsung, telecom equipment vendors Nokia and Ericsson as well as Indian telecom operators — have superior ecosystem readiness for direct-to-mobile (D2M) broadcasting compared with the ATSC 3.0 protocols. Bengaluru-based Saankhya Labs has developed chipsets and radios for D2M broadcasting under the ATSC 3.0 protocols and the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur has done a trial based on its solutions. The Saankhya model allows users to access live content on mobile phones, akin to TV, without an active mobile data connection.
