Lok Sabha Secretariat announced on Thursday that the Joint Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, will conduct a study tour across five Indian cities. The committee will visit Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Patna, and Lucknow from November 9 to November 14, as part of its examination of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. According to an official communication from Joint Secretary JM Baisakh, the study visit program is designed to assist committee members in their review of the proposed bill.

Swiggy is increasing its investment in its quick-commerce business, Swiggy Instamart to Rs 1,179 crore, up 20% from Rs 982 crore mentioned in the red herring prospectus filed on Tuesday. The Bengaluru-based company said it plans to invest Rs 755.4 crore to expand its dark store network, with an additional Rs 423.3 crore for lease and licensing payments for these stores or warehouses. Swiggy Instamart has around 557 dark stores as of June 30 and plans to now take it to 741 compared to earlier plan of 538 per the draft red herring prospectus in September.

Merlin Group, Kolkata's largest real estate developer, is currently executing projects worth Rs 20,000 crore, which are expected to double its annual revenue over the next 7-8 years, a senior official said on Monday. The announcement coincided with the unveiling of the company's new brand identity. «We have been growing steadily year on year for the past 40 years. The group is currently developing 40 million square feet that is projected to yield a total sales of Rs 20,000 crore in the coming 7-8 years,» Merlin Group managing director Saket Mohta said. The current annual revenue of Merlin Group is about Rs 1500 crore, he stated.

West Bengal due to cyclone Dana, taking the toll to four, officials said on Saturday. A civic volunteer, identified as Chandan Das (31), died on the spot when he allegedly touched a live wire in Bud Bud in Purba Bardhaman district. The incident happened when he was out with a police team, they said. An employee of the Howrah Municipal Corporation was found dead in a waterlogged road in Tantipara. It was suspected that he died due to drowning, they said.

Odisha from Thursday at around 11pm to Friday early morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. «The severe cyclonic storm “DANA” over northwest Bay of Bengal moved north north westwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past 6 hours (till the time of reporting) and lay centred at around 70 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 90 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha) and 190 km south of Sagar Island (West Bengal). It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during mid-night of Thursday to morning of Friday as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph, IMD said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rains at one or two places is likely to occur over East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas districts, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and Jhargram districts, IMD said.
