Let’s football! A look at India’s inability to play the beautiful game—and what can be done
football across the length and breadth of this well populated, cricket-junkie land were agog discussing the previous night’s two Euro group matches. Jude Bellingham’s 95th minute goal — and England’s lacklustre performance against Slovenia — was discussed threadbare as if it was Gareth Southgate’s waistcoat. Also hogging the Monday tika-chatter was Spain’s impressive win against Georgia, Rodri’s performance especially garnering rave reviews from those who know that the “j” in “La Roja” is pronounced as an “h”. The same day, FC Barcelona stopped all its football academies across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune.

Urban flooding havoc: Dig deeper for root causes
these pages that flash floods have long been a feature of life on the Indo-Gangetic floodplains. Archival sources on south Bihar dating back to the 1860s, when India was primarily an agricultural economy, showed that sudden floods during the rainy season were the norm, as the Gangetic riverine network overflowed its banks. These floods, however, receded within days, causing little damage and leaving a layer of fine silt that replenished the soil and enhanced farm productivity.

Tomato prices may ease in coming weeks on supplies from Andhra, Karnataka
tomato price, which soared to Rs 75 per kg in the national capital, is expected to cool in the coming weeks as supply improves from southern states, a government official said on Saturday. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said prices of potato and onion, which also spiked due to supply disruptions, are expected to stabilize soon. «Prices of tomato, potato and onion are ruling high in Delhi and some other cities. Extreme heat followed by spells of excess rainfall disrupted supplies, causing a spike in prices in consuming areas,» the consumer affairs ministry official told PTI. Tomato price in New Delhi has surged to Rs 75 per kg, but is likely to ease if heavy rainfall does not further disrupt supply chains, he said.

Discounts are out of question as well, so either way, costumes will have to spend more on enjoying a meal outside. While such sudden and steep prices are typically seasonal, this time they're beyond «digestible levels», Anjan Chatterjee, founder of Speciality Restaurants, which owns brands like Oh! Calcutta and Mainland China, told TOI. «It has been pinching us across. Our bottom lines are shrinking,» Chatterjee said, suggesting that a price review is underway. «Price increases are being absorbed as of now but we do not know what tomorrow holds,» he added.
