Donald Trump's 100% BRICS Tariff threats: How India could be affected in a renewed trade war
Donald Trump prepares for his second term as US President, his aggressive trade stance is already creating ripples in the global economy. A key element of his protectionist policies is the threat of imposing 100% tariffs on BRICS countries, including India, if they move away from using the US dollar in international transactions. This bold stance, declared through a scathing social media post, could have severe consequences for India’s exports, particularly in critical sectors such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, and information technology. Trump’s remarks come in response to discussions among BRICS nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, regarding the possibility of reducing their reliance on the US dollar for trade. A summit held in Russia in October focused on increasing local currency transactions, a move that Trump has now vowed to challenge. “The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER,” Trump wrote, warning that any country attempting to replace the dollar with another currency would face significant tariff hikes. GDP shocker & 7 other factors to decide Sensex, Nifty movement this week
Sensex and Nifty ended the week nearly 1% higher, marking the second consecutive week of advances amid mixed cues. While easing geopolitical tensions, favorable state election results and MSCI rebalancing supported the market, FII selling limited the upside. «The Indian market is increasingly witnessing severe bouts of volatile trading, as the gyration from positive to negative zones has been very sharp owing to stretched valuation concerns and the lingering selloffs from foreign investors. Despite the recovery, there is no firm trend visible due to lack of fresh positive triggers,» Prashanth Tapse of Mehta Equities said.

India's foreign exchange reserves decline for eighth consecutive week
USD 656.582 billion in the week that ended on November 22, data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed. The forex reserves dropped by about USD 1.310 billion in the reporting week. The reserves have been falling ever since it touched all-time high of USD 704.89 billion in September. The reserves have been declining likely due to RBI intervention aimed at preventing a sharp depreciation of the Rupee. A substantial foreign exchange reserve buffer helps shield domestic economic activity from global shocks.

Are there really ghosts in the voting machine?
Nitish Kumar joins hands with BJP. The fact that states and UTs like Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Himachal and, most recently, Jharkhand have EVMs that are completely unaffected by suspected poltergeist activity adds to the mystery. Some people like Mallikarjun Kharge, Sharad Pawar and Mayawati, have a rational bent of mind. They believe that EVM anomalies are not the product of ghosts in the machine, but of human tampering. They have demanded that the ballot paper — their metric of reliability from the good old 80s-90s when voters chose 'better' than they do today, except in states where they continue to choose correctly — be brought back.

While celebrity-branded products are raking it in globally, why are big bucks evading brands of Indian stars?
The oil, a bestseller from the celebrity, wasn’t the only product that sold like hot cake on its India launch. Most products from the brand that went live on Sephora India that midnight sold out, so much so that the traffic led to the site crashing. Fellow global superstar Rihanna chose to introduce her brand Fenty Beauty, valued at a massive $3 billion, on Falguni Nayak-owned beauty platform Nykaa this March to a star-spangled launch, and saw immediate sales traction. The launch was timed right after Rihanna performed at billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant’s wedding with Radhika Merchant.

Indian celebs should attend B-School to succeed in business: Why celebrity brands struggle after initial hype
Lomani Amitabh B Pour Homme Perfume sells on Amazon for Rs 1,299 for a 100 ml pack. Legend 1942 also sells an Amitabh Bachchan range of men’s perfumes—Heritage White and Flamboyance Black. The price is steeper at Rs 3,750 for a 100 ml bottle. The “1942” in the brand name, in case you did not make the connection, is Bachchan’s year of birth. A new range was launched a couple of years ago, on his 80th birthday. Unfortunately, the perfumes don’t seem to be anywhere close to being the hot sellers that one would expect from Big B. They exist, but without much fanfare or franchise —a pale shadow of the legend they represent. I visited Nueva, Virat Kohli’s restaurant in Delhi. It was nice but it wasn’t exceptional. There is also One8 Commune now open in multiple locations. I have read mixed reviews of the restaurant, and those that have been there have provided only lukewarm feedback.

Tipu Sultan a "very complex figure in history," says EAM S Jaishankar
Vikram Sampath's book 'Tipu Sultan: The Saga of the Mysore Interregnum' at the Indian Habitat Centre here in Delhi. Jaishankar described Tipu Sultan as a «very complex figure in history,» highlighting both his resistance to British colonial control and the controversial aspects of his rule. Speaking at the event, Jaishankar said, «Tipu Sultan is actually a very, very complex figure in history. On the one hand, he has the reputation as a key figure who resisted the British colonial control over India, and it is a fact that his defeat and death can be considered a turning point when it came to the fate of peninsular India.» However, Jaishankar also noted the «adverse» effects of Tipu Sultan's rule in the Mysore region. «At the same time, he evokes strong adverse sentiments even today in many regions, some in Mysore itself,» he added.

SBI launches nation-wide drive for activation of inoperative accounts
State Bank of India (SBI) on Saturday said it has launched a nation-wide drive to raise awareness about the importance of inoperative account activation. A savings or a current account is treated as inoperative if the customer has no transaction in the account for a period of over two years. Activation of these accounts requires Re-KYC. Necessity of regular transactions in the account and preventing categorization into in-operative was the key message, SBI said in a statement.
