Are we looking at the mother of all stock bubbles?
The idea of America as an exceptional nation, superior to its rivals and therefore destined to lead the world, seems passé to most observers. In political, diplomatic and military circles, the talk is of a dysfunctional superpower, isolationist abroad and polarized at home. But in the investing world, the term “American exceptionalism” is hotter than ever.

The Canadian dollar vs. Donald Trump: How low can a slumping loonie go as the Trump trade plays out?
The Canadian dollar has been steadily declining over the past couple of months — a drop many economists and currency experts have linked to the rising expectations of a Donald Trump victory in the lead up to the U.S. election. The loonie is down just over four per cent against its U.S. counterpart since late September, and 1.5 per cent since Nov. 5. It slumped nearly a half per cent after Trump announced that, on day one of his presidency, he would impose a 25 per cent tariff on all goods entering the United States from Canada and Mexico.

According to New York Post, John Morgan gave all the credits to Barron Trump’s suggestion for his father to appear on popular podcasts which included ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ as pivotal in defeating Kamala Harris in the recent US Presidential election. He actually criticized Kamala Harris for avoiding such platforms while arguing that her limited media presence contributed to her campaign's failure. Adani row: Samyukt Kisan Morcha threatens protest in support of opposition's demand for JPC probe
Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday attacked the Centre over the Adani issue and threatened to launch a protest in support of the opposition's demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the allegations against the business group. In a statement, the SKM, an umbrella organisation of several farmers' bodies, also said that protests will be held in Uttar Pradesh on December 4 against proposed privatisation of electricity sector in the state. The SKM accused the NDA government at the Centre of shielding industrialist Gautam Adani, against whom bribery allegations have been made in a US court. «The case registered against Adani Group in the USA corroborates SKM's demand of no privatisation of the electricity sector and prepaid smart meters that will impose huge exploitation of the people,» the SKM said.

US manufacturing contracts at slow pace; input price growth cools
The improvement reported by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) on Monday tracked similar increases in other sentiment surveys, which have risen on hopes of more business-friendly policies from the incoming Trump administration. Still, manufacturing is not out of the woods yet. ISM Manufacturing Business Survey Committee Chair Timothy Fiore noted that «production execution eased in November,» consistent with demand sluggishness and weak backlogs, and that suppliers continue to have capacity, with lead times improving but some product shortages reappearing.

Rahul Gandhi indulging in fear-mongering with selective data, half-truths: BJP
BJP has flayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on GDP growth rate decline and said his attempt to paint a picture of economic doom, with selective data and «half-truths», is not just misleading but reeks of a «childish» oversimplification of complex realities. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha had on Sunday expressed concern over India's GDP growth rate declining to its lowest in two years and said the country's economy cannot progress as long as a handful of billionaires accrue its benefits. He stressed that new thinking is required for India's economy and a new deal for businesses should be an important part of it. Reacting sharply, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya wrote on X, «Your attempt to paint a picture of economic doom, with selective data and half-truths is not just misleading but reeks of 'Balak Buddhi' — a childish oversimplification of complex realities». He said crying foul over a 5.4 per cent GDP growth rate by the Congress leader is «laughable when it is one of the highest globally».

US President Joe Biden saves son Hunter from possible Jail sentence ahead of Donald Trump's swearing-in. Here's how
Joe Biden pardoned his son, Hunter, sparing the younger Biden a possible prison sentence for federal felony gun and tax convictions and reversing his past promises not to use the extraordinary powers of the presidency for the benefit of his family, as per a report. The Democratic president had previously said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence after convictions in the two cases in Delaware and California. The move on Sunday night comes weeks before Hunter Biden was set to receive his punishment after his trial conviction in the gun case and guilty plea on tax charges, and less than two months before President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House, AP reported. It caps a long-running legal saga for the younger Biden, who publicly disclosed he was under federal investigation in December 2020 — a month after his father’s 2020 victory — and casts a pall over the elder Biden's legacy.

Will shut down FBI...: Firebrand Kash Patel chosen for top pick. Why has it sent shockwaves through Washington?
President-elect Donald Trump has picked Indian-origin Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Patel is one of the Trump's most loyal enforcers and a conspiracy theorist — a 2020 election denier who wants to purge the so-called «deep state». He recently publicly pledged to investigate and prosecute Trump’s enemies in the media and government, according to The Rolling Stone. “I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday evening.

Retail revolution needed: Five reasons to add fixed income mutual funds in your portfolio
In recent years, the decline in debt mutual fund investors has been alarming. Since 2020, folios in fixed income funds have dropped to 7.1 million from 8.1 million even as equity-oriented fund folios have skyrocketed to over 1.5 billion from 638 million. While the percentage of total MF assets to bank fixed deposits has risen to 31% in 2024 from 16% in 2020, the ratio of fixed income assets under management to bank deposits remains a paltry 7.5% as of October 2024.

How UK’s Indian restaurants got on the gravy train
The value of Thanksgiving gravy is shown in the FRIENDS TV serial episode ‘The One with Ross’s Sandwich’. The sandwich is made with what an obsessed Ross rather grossly calls the ‘moistmaker’, a slice of bread soaked in leftover gravy. It acknowledges that bread and gravy are natural partners, as the Old Foodie’s blog notes in a recipe for ‘Gravy-bread for invalids’ from an 1859 English cookery book.

Before exiting, Joe Biden heads to Africa to highlight his own counter to China. Will Donald Trump take it up?
Biden is finally making his long-promised visit to Africa this week, attempting to showcase a US-backed railway project in three countries that he has pushed as a new approach in countering some of China's global influence. Biden's first visit to the continent as president — which he left to the very end — will highlight the Lobito Corridor railway redevelopment in Zambia, Congo and Angola. It aims to advance US presence in a region rich in the critical minerals used in batteries for electric vehicles, electronic devices and clean energy technologies. That's a key field for US-China competition and China has a stranglehold on Africa's critical minerals.
