Netflix, Max, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+ new movies, shows: US election movie to 'The Golden Bachelorette', full list here
Netflix, Max, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+ are releasing new movies and shows for OTT subscribers. These movies and shows include a film on US Presidential Elections. US Election 2024 Day is fast approaching, and Max is looking back to the last presidential race. The HBO documentary “Stopping the Steal,” directed by Emmy-winner Dan Reed, focuses on Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 results in Arizona and Georgia, culminating in the attack on the U.S. Capitol. It features interviews with Trump insiders like former Attorney General Bill Barr, former White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin and White House campaign official Stephanie Grisham. The producers say it “explores and debunks the claims of ballot tampering, illegal immigrants and deceased people voting.” The film premieres Tuesday on Max. Writer-director Azazel Jacobs’ latest movie stars Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne and Elizabeth Olsen as sisters who gather in the New York apartment of their dying father. A highlight of the fall season, “His Three Daughters” is one of the most memorable tales of siblinghood, and of a death in the family, in recent memory. It's out on Netflix on Friday, September 20.

US presidential debate: Harris seemed from Earth and Trump from Alpha Centauri
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. If I had to grade the debate between US Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump from a climate perspective, I would give it a C, and that’s being generous. One candidate mainly looked backward and talked a little too favourably about fossil fuels.

Indian festivals and the life cycles of old clothes
Indian festivals involve new clothes. Onam, which is today, will see Malayalis receiving new mundus and saris. What isn’t often appreciated is that new clothes mean more old ones, which in time will stop being worn entirely — and then possibly cut up and reused at home. This may seem weird in these days of fast fashion, where nearly new clothes are jettisoned (hopefully ending up in ‘pre loved’ sales rather than the garbage dump). But old clothes were ideally suited for many kitchen tasks. Most obviously as dusters, but for culinary uses too like making paneer or hung curd, which needed fine thin cloth to drain away the whey. This is so integral to cheese-making that cheesecloth is manufactured for this purpose. The Oxford Companion to Cheese notes that it is made “in a variety of thread counts, ranging from coarser weaves in the range of 60 threads per inch… to finer fabrics at 90 threads per inch”. Coarse cloth is used for harder cheeses, drained of more moisture, while finer fabrics retain more, for softer, creamier cheese.

VP Jagdeep Dhankhar targets Rahul Gandhi over quota remark, says it shows 'anti-constitutional mindset'
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on «ending reservation», Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday said such comments by a person holding a constitutional post shows «anti-constitutional mindset». Addressing a public event in Mumbai, Dhankhar also said that awareness about India's Constitution is highly needed as some people have forgotten its soul. «A person from a constitutional post saying on a foreign land that reservation should be ended underscores the same anti-constitutional mindset. The baton of prejudices against reservation has been handed over. It is the same old anti-constitutional mindset,» he said. «Reservation is not against meritocracy, but it is the soul of the country and the Constitution. It is an affirmative action and not negative. It is not depriving someone of opportunity but handholding those who are pillars of strength of the society,» the vice president said.

Kamala Harris reveals gun ownership in debate with Donald Trump: Here's what it means for her stance on gun control
Kamala Harris revealed that she owns a handgun for personal safety. This disclosure, which came as a strategic response to Republican criticisms, highlights her effort to navigate the complex landscape of American gun politics. According to a White House source, Harris’s gun is securely stored at her California home. During the debate, Harris addressed Republican accusations with the statement: “This business about taking everyone's guns away — Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We're not taking anybody's guns away, so stop with the continuous lying about this stuff.” She also recalled her personal reasons for owning a gun, saying in 2019, “I am a gun owner, and I own a gun for probably the reason a lot of people do — for personal safety. I was a career prosecutor.”

India is preparing to finalize a significant deal with the United States for 31 weaponized MQ-9B Predator drones. This agreement is expected to be signed next month. The defense ministry is currently finalizing a draft note for the finance ministry before seeking approval from the Prime Minister-led cabinet committee on security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the US for the Quad leaders’ summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21. “The contract should be inked in mid-Oct. Charting the global economy: Deflation concerns mount in China
Receding inflation and growing economic concerns prompted the European Central Bank to lower interest rates a quarter point for the second time this year. Clues on the timing of the next cut were in short supply on Thursday, with President Christine Lagarde and colleagues awaiting data on how drastically the economy is deteriorating — and how that will shift inflation. In the US, an unexpected pickup in underlying inflation reduced odds of a bigger rate cut from Federal Reserve policymakers this coming week.

Bill Maher joked that Laura Loomer and Donald Trump might be in an «arranged relationship» to influence the 2024 election. Maher's comments came during his HBO show Real Time. He also suggested that personalities like Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are pretending to date to sway voters for the same purpose. Maher described Loomer as «very close to Trump» and speculated, “I think maybe Laura Loomer's in an arranged relationship to influence the election because she's very close to Trump.” He added, “She's 31 and looks like his type.” Maher further stated, “Who's Trump f******? Because I said, it's not nobody. He's been a dog for too long. And it's not Melania. I think we may have our answer this week.”

US Election 2024: Kamala Harris is promoting her resume and her goals rather than race as she courts Black voters
Biden was hosting a celebration of Black excellence at the White House with lawmakers, advocates and celebrities this past week, Kamala Harris was instead headed off to campaign in Pennsylvania. The nation's first Black vice president spoke with voters there about supporting small businesses, building more housing and expanding the child tax credit. She said the country «needs a president of the United States who works for all the American people.» What she did not do was spend time talking about her race or gender or the prospect that she would be the nation's first Black and South Asian woman to be president if she defeated Republican Donald Trump.

Nuclear secrets for ballistic missiles? UK, US express growing concerns over rumoured Iran-Russia nuclear agreement
nuclear technology with Iran in return for ballistic missiles. These missiles, believed to be used in Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine, have prompted fears of a growing nuclear threat. Both leaders acknowledged the deepening military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran during their discussions, which also covered the war in Ukraine, the Middle East crisis, and competition with China. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking earlier in London, warned, “For its part, Russia is sharing technology that Iran seeks – this is a two-way street – including on nuclear issues as well as some space information,” suggesting that Russia and Iran are engaged in destabilizing activities with global implications.

US elections: Kamala Harris should be nervous, she’s leading Trump by only 1.3 points, within margin of error
Kamala Harris may not win the US polls 2024 and end up conceding way more territories than was earlier expected, if reports are to be believed. A latest survey has revealed that she is leading Donald Trump by a mere 1.3 points, which is a negligible figure, considering the fact that this lead is within the margin of error, which means the risk of her losing out on the polls is very high at this point.
