In an interview to CBC News on Monday on the eve of the anniversary of the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Trudeau said, „Now that he's through his election, I think there is an opportunity for us to engage, including on some very serious issues around national security and keeping Canadians safe and the rule of law.“ Trudeau's remarks follow his meeting with Prime Minister Modi in Italy during the G7 Summit where India was invited as an Outreach country. PM Modi had tweeted a photograph of himself with the Canadian PM as they shook hands.

The Chief Minister alleged that the State faced injustice by the BJP-led NDA government in its share of central funds and GST devolution and in matters relating to release of funds for State projects and dared the BJP to hold protests over this. Siddaramaiah said the crude oil prices were ruling at USD 113 per barrel at some stage during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but presently, it is at USD 82.35. In 2015, the crude oil price was USD 52 per barrel, which decreased further in the next year, he claimed.

Congress in Kerala on Monday tendered an apology to the Christian community a day after one of its social media posts taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent meeting with Pope Francis triggered a political row in the state. The party also withdrew the post from its official X handle. In a fresh post on its X handle, the state unit of the grand old party said it tendered an unconditional apology to the Christian faithful if its earlier post had caused any «emotional or psychological distress» to them. In the explanatory post, the party further said the people in the state clearly know that it is not the tradition of the Indian National Congress to insult and disparage any religion, religious priests or idols.

S Jaishankar held a meeting with United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in New Delhi on Monday and discussed various bilateral, regional and global issues. Jaishankar expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between India and the US will continue to advance strongly in the near term. Ajit Doval on Monday held extensive talks with his American counterpart Jake Sullivan primarily focusing on implementation of the ambitious India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). The two top security officials are also learnt to have deliberated upon pressing global and regional issues of mutual interest. Sullivan, accompanied by a delegation of senior American officials and industry leaders, is on an official visit to New Delhi from June 17 to 18. Following the launch of the iCET by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joseph Biden on the sidelines of the Quad summit in Tokyo in May 2022, the two NSAs have driven a concerted effort to engage in identified areas of collaboration in diverse domains of new and emerging technologies, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, defence innovation, space and advanced telecommunications.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday departed for West Bengal to oversee the relief efforts following a collision between a goods train and the Kanchanjunga Express near New Jalpaiguri. The accident, which occurred close to Rangapani station, resulted in at least five fatalities and left approximately 30 individuals injured. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences. «The railway accident in West Bengal is saddening. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to officials and took stock of the situation. Rescue operations are underway to assist the affected,» PM Modi said on social media.

Amit Shah while chairing a high-level meeting on Sunday directed security agencies to implement area domination and zero-terror plans in the Jammu division like they did in Kashmir to achieve success. «Union Home Minister said that the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is in its decisive phase. Reiterating Zero Tolerance Policy against Terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister said that the government will leave no stone unturned in rooting out terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir,» said the official statement of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Rudraprayag bus accident that claimed the lives of 14 people, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday said that the transportation department has been asked to probe the incident. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, while speaking to said, «The bus accident was very unfortunate. Yesterday I went to Rishikesh and I have taken information from the doctors who are treating those injured, their families have also been informed». «Orders have been given to investigate the Rudraprayag Tempo Traveller accident. We are investigating this matter. We have also taken stock of the hospital where the injured have been admitted,» Dhami said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday said all partners of the opposition INDIA bloc will try to ensure support for the ruling ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) if it fields a candidate for the Lok Sabha speaker's election. Talking to reporters here, Raut claimed the Lok Sabha speaker's election will be crucial and if the BJP gets the post, it will break the government-supporting parties like the TDP, JD(U) and the political outfits of Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary. «We have the experience that BJP betrays the people who support it,» Raut claimed. «I hear the TDP wants to field its candidate. If that happens, INDIA bloc partners will discuss the issue and will try to ensure that all the INDIA alliance partners extend support to the TDP,» he said.

Sumeet Malik, one of the directors of the Eastern Book Company, told PTI that the idea of printing a court pocket edition came from Supreme Court advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, who suggested that they should publish a version that fits easily in the lawyers' court pockets. «The first edition was launched in 2009 and there have been about 16 editions of this book, which have been published so far. And over the years, these copies have been purchased by many lawyers and judges, and also given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ram Nath Kovind when he became the President of India,» said Malik.
