Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote to Speaker Om Birla on Sunday night, urging him to revoke the suspension of 13 Opposition MPs and “restore normalcy” in the House. The letter comes after the Parliament works were stalled for two consecutive days last week over the security breach in LS and over Opposition demand for the Home Minister’s statement on the matter.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla sought to draw a distinction between the recent incident of security breach in Parliament and suspension of opposition MPs, saying that there is «no association» between the two. Three days after two visitors jumped from the visitor's gallery into Lok Sabha chamber, Birla wrote a letter to all the MPs that a high-level committee has been constituted for an «in-depth investigation» of the incident and another high-level panel for reviewing security of the Parliament complex. In the two-page letter, Birla cited various similar incidents that happened in the past, including when some MPs carried pepper spray in the House. He underlined that on all such occasions, the House expressed collective resolve against such incidents. He reiterated that it is Parliament's responsibility to formulate a detailed action plan on security measures in accordance with MPs' suggestions. Talking about the suspension of MPs, Birla said linking it with breach of security was 'unfortunate' while asserting that there is «no association» between the two. On December 14, a day after the security breach, 13 MPs all belonging to opposition parties were suspended from Lok Sabha for disrupting the proceedings of the House.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday suspended its MP Danish Ali for indulging in anti-party activities, the party said in a statement. Earlier on December 3, Ali wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, claiming that the report to be tabled by the Ethics Committee in connection with the 'cash for query' charge against TMC leader Mahua Moitra has a 'full paragraph' on his conduct during the panel's hearing in the case. A member of the committee, Ali had walked out along with fellow Opposition members in the panel during the hearing in the 'cash-for-query' case. In his letter to the Speaker, the BSP MP urged him to get the paragraph on his conduct deleted before the report is presented before the House at the start of the Winter Session on December 4. Mahua Moitra for ‘unethical conduct’ in the cash-for-query case. The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee report was tabled in the lower house of the parliament on Friday, following which a heated debate ensued. Thereafter, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion to expel the Trinamool member for "unethical conduct", which was adopted by a voice vote.

Trinamool Congress leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay Friday described the Ethics Committee's recommendation to expel party MP Mahua Moitra in a «cash-for-query» allegation as «political vendetta» and claimed that it was aimed at stopping her from raising issues against the Adani Group. Bandyopadhyay said he had a one-on-one meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who informed him that the report would be tabled along with a resolution.
