Microsoft Corp., the biggest backer of Sam Altman’s OpenAI, and BlackRock Inc., which has an executive on the artificial intelligence startup’s board, are joining forces with one of its chief rivals. Abu Dhabi’s MGX, Microsoft and BlackRock said Elon Musk’s xAI is joining their effort to build $30 billion worth of data centers and other artificial intelligence infrastructure. The AI chipmaker Nvidia Corp., which was already named as a technical adviser to the group when it was announced last year, is also formally joining, according to a statement on Wednesday that didn’t detail member commitments.

India and the United Arab Emirates(UAE) on Friday discussed implementation of the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) and resolved to shore up ties in areas of energy including long-term supplies and collaboration in upstream and downstream projects. Ways to further deepen bilateral relations in areas of energy, connectivity and trade figured prominently at the 15th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) that was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting was held in New Delhi. The two foreign ministers also deliberated on expanding strategic partnership between the two countries in areas of defence, emerging technologies, nuclear energy, polar research, critical minerals and renewable energy at a meeting of the India- UAE Strategic Dialogue held last night.

During the talks on Thursday, PM Modi also conveyed his warm wishes for UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to the Ministry of External Affairs statement. PM Modi expressed satisfaction at the frequent high-level visits and exchanges, including the visit of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in September 2024, which marked a generational continuity in bilateral relations.

Visiting UAE foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and external affairs minister S Jaishankar, among other issues, focused on the power vacuum and absence of institutional governance in Syria amid pro-Al Qaeda-ISIS transition government taking over power, it is learnt. The two sides are also understood to have discussed implications of the Syrian developments and ISIS-Al Qaeda gaining in strength in the region. The Gaza-Lebanon situation is also understood to have been discussed.

That makes the combined UAE market, which includes exchanges in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, bigger than Milan or Madrid. While dwarfed by the nearly $3 trillion Saudi Arabian bourse, the UAE is larger than most emerging markets, barring a few like India and China, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

India and the UAE have inked a pact that provides a framework for giving services for operation and maintenance of nuclear plants in the emirate. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Bhuwan Chandra Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), and Mohamed Al Hammadi, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) of the UAE. The MoU was inked during the ongoing visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India. Al Nahyan held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

India is set to host the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, early next week as it seeks to cultivate the next generation leadership in the key Gulf state. Sheikh Khaled, the eldest son of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, has been groomed for leadership through his membership of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and the main national security body since 2016. In 2016, he was appointed head of national security. In January 2017, he was named the deputy national security adviser. In March 2023, he was appointed as the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, which holds the president's post since the creation of the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum on Sunday announced he appointed his son, the emirate's crown prince, as defence minister of the United Arab Emirates in a cabinet reshuffle. "Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has joined the government of the UAE as Deputy Prime Minister and has been appointed Minister of Defence," Sheikh Mohammed, who is the UAE's prime minister, wrote on X. Sheikh Hamdan, 41, is the second son of Sheikh Mohammed and has held the title of crown prince of Dubai since 2008.

Jaishankar held «productive and deep» conversations with his United Arab Emirates counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on India and UAE's «ever-growing» comprehensive strategic ties and discussed regional and global issues. Jaishankar, who was in the UAE on Sunday, visited the iconic BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi and participated in the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations before meeting Al Nahyan. «Very pleased to meet UAE FM @ABZayed today in Abu Dhabi,» he said in a post on X after meeting his UAE counterpart. «Productive and deep conversations on our ever-growing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Appreciated the discussion and his insights on regional and global issues,» he said.

Narendra Modi on Saturday shared highlights from his participation in the G7 Summit at Italy and said that he presented India's perspective on the world stage. A video shared by PM Modi shows glimpses of the highlights of his visit to Italy including his arrival in Italy to Italian PM Giorgia Meloni's welcome at the venue of the G7 Summit in Apulia city in Italy.
