Kargil Plateau Nath Baba: Indian Army is maintaining this miraculous temple where bombs don't explode
divine guidance during challenging times. One such place is the "Plateau Nath Baba Mandir," located downhill of Kargil town. This temple, believed to possess miraculous protective powers, has saved troops from bombardment since the 1971 war and the 1999 Kargil War, as none of the numerous bombs landing near it have exploded. Soldiers stationed near the site believe the temple’s divine aura shields them from harm, earning its reverence among the Army and locals. The Punjab Regiment, currently guarding higher posts on the Line of Control at Kargil, maintains the temple.

Uttarakhand: 14-member team heads to Sunderdhunga to inspect temple built illegally by 'godman'
Bageshwar district administration in Uttarakhand has dispatched a team of officials to Sunderdhunga, located at a height of more than 12,000 feet, to inspect an unauthorised temple built in the eco-sensitive zone by a self-styled godman. This follows a complaint by the residents of nearby villages that the baba, who lives in the temple and introduces himself as Chaitanya Akash, bathes in Devi Kund, a sacred lake that flows below the structure. The villagers have called it an act of desecration as they bathe their deities in the lake once a year. Bageshwar District Magistrate (DM) Anuradha Pal said the 14-member team sent to Sunderdhunga comprises police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and officials of revenue and forest departments. The baba bathes in the lake and also encourages tourists to do so, she said.

Bhole Baba or Surajpal Singh is a godman who comes with a distinct sartorial style. Born to Jatav parents in Bahadur Nagari village of Kasganj district around the mid-1960s, he eventually amassed a significant following, especially among the SC/ST communities, advocating for their upliftment and social justice. Bhole Baba's transformation into a spiritual leader began in his youth, influenced by his farmer father and deeply religious mother, and culminated in his current persona after a career in the UP Police. However, his journey has been marred by controversies and allegations.

Anti-social elements behind stampede, Bhole Baba never lets people touch his feet: Lawyer
lawyer representing Bhole Baba claimed Wednesday that "anti-social elements" were behind the stampede at the preacher's 'satsang' here in which 121 people died a day back, and contradicted preliminary reports that the tragedy struck when his followers rushed to collect the soil touched by his feet. According to preliminary government reports, the stampede occurred when a large number of his followers, mostly women, rushed towards Baba Narayan Hari alias Saakar Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba when he was leaving to get a closer glimpse of the preacher and collect his «charan raj». «Some anti-social elements hatched a conspiracy. When Narayan Saakar Hari left the venue, his vehicles left, our volunteers and followers failed to understand what was happening due to the conspiracy. This was done as per a plan and should be investigated,» lawyer A P Singh told PTI. Singh said Bhole Baba is also ready to cooperate with the state administration and the police probing Tuesday's stampede and has demanded an investigation into the entire matter.

UP-Hathras Stampede: How crowding, humidity led to 121 deaths in Hathras horror. What we know so far
Uttar Pradesh, a tragic stampede during a religious congregation led by 'Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba' has claimed the lives of at least 121 people, leaving over 300 others injured. The victims, predominantly women and children, were part of a massive crowd that had gathered near Phulrai village in the Sikandrarau area. The stampede left over 300 people injured, overwhelming local medical facilities. The stampede occurred around 3:30 PM as thousands of attendees rushed to touch the feet of Bhole Baba, whose real name is Surajpal, a former police officer turned religious preacher. According to eyewitnesses, parts of the ground had become boggy due to water overflowing from a nearby drain, causing people to slip and fall over one another. Overcrowding was cited as a primary factor, with attendance far exceeding the 80,000 figure mentioned in the event organizers' application. Reports indicated that nearly 2.5 lakh people attended the 'satsang'. Prakash Kumar, an injured attendee from Aligarh, recounted, “There was a large crowd at the site. There was no way out, and people fell on each other and fainted. When I tried to move out, there were motorcycles parked outside, which blocked my way.”

'Miracles' and hope: Hathras stampede spotlights India's craze for godmen
Bhole Baba" and Ramkumari said a stone in her kidney vanished. The 85-year-old gave no proof but this story and countless others of similar "miracles" led to Baba's following rocketing in India's northern states. A gathering addressed by the former police head constable in a crowded field last week drew a quarter of a million people and caused one of the deadliest stampedes in the country. Bhole Baba, or Innocent Elder, was born Suraj Pal Singh Jatav. He quit the police in 2000 to join a series of Hindu preachers and gurus in India who are sought by millions for miracle cures and spiritual advice. They are often called godmen, and many have been wooed by politicians for the influence they wield.
