Interviews
His current WFH job was mocked as gig in an interview. A candidate shares 'humiliating' experience
digital marketing lead. What was meant to be a routine discussion about their skills and career aspirations turned into an uncomfortable and humiliating encounter, he said in post on social media. During the interview, the CEO laughed at one of their previous job roles, dismissing it as a “gig” instead of a real job, solely because it was a remote position for an overseas company. Despite attempts to explain the nature of their work, the professional felt belittled and exhausted by the interaction, he said. The situation worsened when the CEO mocked his career trajectory, pointing out that their last three jobs were in different industries. Instead of appreciating the adaptability and diverse experience, the interviewer appeared to see this as a lack of focus or commitment. The professional left the interview feeling humiliated and questioning whether this treatment was normal or an indication of something deeper about the company’s culture.

Tata company CEO suggests new hiring mantra: 'Rent people'. Big debate erupts online
Harit Nagpal, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Play Ltd., recently sparked controversy on social media by using the term «rent» to describe the hiring of employees. In a LinkedIn post, Mr. Nagpal emphasized the importance of embracing the unique perspectives and attitudes of hired individuals, granting them the freedom to grow. In return, he explained, their increased knowledge and confidence would contribute to the company’s success. However, his choice of words in the opening line—"rent people"—left many readers puzzled. His post read, “Don't build careers. Rent people. This isn't their first job. They won't retire here. Allow them to bring their beliefs and attitudes with them. Let them be and do what they couldn't where they were before. As their knowledge and confidence grows, they will learn to fly and make you soar too. And when they leave, they'll encourage others like them to join you.” The post, shared a few days ago, has since garnered significant attention and sparked varied reactions. While some praised his insight, others found the phrasing difficult to overlook.

Older IIT's less sought after branch or Computer Science at newer IITs?
The result was an impressive job offer of Rs 55 lakh per annum. The author of the post emphasised that the «IIT tag» plays a significant role in their career success, stating, «A degree from an old IIT isn’t just a degree, it’s a signal.» According to the author, the brand value and established ecosystem of older IITs offer more career opportunities than the specific branch of study. «You don’t need a CS degree to be a great developer. What you do need is access to the right ecosystem, and Old IITs provide exactly that.»

Morning Coffee: The niche banking job that lost its appeal but might be coming back again. How to forecast the effect of AI on your job
It’s been a strange few years for ESG specialists in investment banking. As recently as 2021 it was one of the hottest recruitment segments, with $500k roles going unfilled. Any banker who had driven past a wind turbine on the way to the airport, or walked past a casino while a Pride event was taking place was reinventing him or herself as an ESG expert, to the extent that the regulators had to put out formal warnings against “ competencewashing ”.

Danity Kane. Richard, through her attorney Lisa Bloom, has filed a lawsuit against Combs, claiming she suffered economic, physical, and emotional harm during her time working with him. According to reports in Radar Online, Richard's decision to come forward was influenced by the viral hotel surveillance footage that surfaced earlier this year, showing Combs allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Bloom stated that Richard, an accomplished musician, was inspired to share her story after seeing Ventura speak out. According to Bloom, Richard has always been focused on her music but felt compelled to take action to support Ventura and others who have suffered similar experiences.

Rice cookers and the lives of women in Asia
Payal Kapadia, director of the acclaimed new film All We Imagine As Light, has a more ambiguous view of rice cookers. Prabha, one of the nurses who are the central characters, receives one as a gift from her husband, who disappeared to Germany years ago. It is both impressive — “so international”, her flatmate Anu exclaims — and impractical, too large for their tiny apartment or the meals they make. It is an appliance for a large family, of the kind that Prabha was denied by her husband’s absence. Kapadia has pointed out in interviews that such devices are marketed as being Pable to change a woman’s life, but “not that you could go to work now, but that you will take better care of your family”. Prabha has achieved a career and life on her own terms, yet the cooker can make her yearn for the life she could have had.

Pranab should have been PM, Manmohan as President: Aiyar shares big revelation about Congress and the Gandhis
Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar reflected on a period of significant challenges for the party in 2012, highlighting two major crises: Sonia Gandhi's illness and Manmohan Singh undergoing six bypass surgeries. Aiyar shared his view that Congress could have avoided its catastrophic 2014 Lok Sabha defeat with different leadership decisions. “You see, in 2012, we had two disasters taking place: one was that Sonia Gandhi fell very ill, and Dr Manmohan Singh had six bypasses. So, we were crippled at the head of the government and at the head of the party," he said to PTI. He added, “…if Dr Manmohan Singh had become the President and Pranab had become the PM, I still think we would have lost in 2014 (Lok Sabha polls), but not by this massive humiliating defeat that we actually had, where we fell to 44 seats.”

Bollywood's Kapoor Khandan's only graduate is a teacher now. Who is Aditya Raj Kapoor?
Kapoor family has contributed more legends to Indian cinema than any other film dynasty. From acting and directing to writing, members of this illustrious clan have excelled in nearly every aspect of filmmaking—except academics. Over a century of cinematic history, the Kapoors have produced over a dozen superstars, but only one graduate. Aditya Raj Kapoor, the son of Shammi Kapoor, is the only member of the Kapoor family to complete higher education. Remarkably, he achieved this milestone at the age of 67. In 2023, Aditya became one of India’s oldest graduates by earning a Philosophy degree through correspondence from the Indira Gandhi National Open University. Taking his academic pursuits further, he began a teaching career in August 2024, delivering his first lecture on the synthesis of Eastern and Western virtue ethics, as reported by ETimes. Born in 1956 to Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali, Aditya is among the few Kapoor men who didn’t have a successful film career. Educated at Lawrence School, Sanawar, he started as an assistant to his uncle Raj Kapoor on Bobby and later worked on Dharam Karam and Satyam Shivam Sundaram. Moving away from films to focus on business, Aditya eventually returned to acting in 2010 with films like Chase and debuted on television in 2014 with Everest. However, just before the pandemic, he shifted his focus to academics, completing his graduation.

Lakshmi Manchu’s cryptic post on living and loss amid feud betweed father Mohan Babu and brother Manoj, sparks worry among fans
Tollywood actress Lakshmi Manchu, daughter of veteran actor Mohan Babu, has found herself under the spotlight amid a publicized family feud involving her father and brother, Manchu Manoj. Fans have flooded her social media with questions regarding the conflict, but Lakshmi has chosen to remain silent, opting instead to share cryptic messages online. In the past, Lakshmi has openly spoken about the challenges she has faced within her family, particularly highlighting the gender disparity where the men have enjoyed more privileges than the women. Her decision to move from Hyderabad to Mumbai in 2023 was a pivotal step in her career, made possible with the support of actors Ram Charan and Rana Daggubati. On Thursday, Lakshmi posted a thought-provoking quote by Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius on X (formerly Twitter): “What are you afraid of losing when nothing in the world actually belongs to you.” This came a day after she shared a peaceful Instagram video of her daughter, Vidya Nirvana, captioned simply as “Peace” with an evil eye emoji.
