UPS Racing Election community President country rights NOT Number of Indian Americans in elected offices not reflective of their population, says Kamala Harris
Indian Americans in elected offices is not reflective of their growing population, US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Wednesday, urging the members of the minority ethnic community to run for elected offices increasingly. Harris, who is of both Indian and African heritage, was speaking at "Desis Decide" — the annual summit of Indian American Impact, a democratic party think tank, that supports and funds Indian Americans running for elected offices across the country. «Over the years, we've had so much more participation by Indian Americans in the electoral process running for office. But the numbers are still not reflective of the size of the growing population,» Harris, the first-ever Indian American, African American, and a woman to be elected as the vice president of the US told a packed room of Indian Americans in the national capital. Currently, there are five elected Indian American members of the Congress — Dr Ami Bera, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, and Shri Thanedar. Impact believed that in 2024, the Indian American strength in the Congress will increase to 10 members.

UPS Citi Assurant community show Lok Sabha polls: Dharavi redevelopment gives Sena (Shinde) upper hand
Mumbai once had the dubious distinction of being Asia's largest slum. Then, an embarrassed Mumbai Municipal Corporation claimed Orangi in the Pakistani port city of Karachi has inherited that rather ignominious moniker. However, Dharavi still is home to a very large number of people — more than half a million — jostling for meagre resources on a relatively tiny patch of land — of about 550 acres. And, the area remains central to the outcome of the parliamentary polls in the Mumbai South Central seat. Dharavi is populated largely with 50 to 70 square foot homes, interspersed with leather and plastic recycling and pottery and other small-scale units. Successive state governments for several decades have been promising to redevelop Dharavi, which is part of the Mumbai south central constituency.

UPS Fighting Election community rights Shiv Sena infighting: Arvind Sawant faces tough challenge in Mumbai South from faction Rival Yamini Jadhav
Shiv Sena candidate, Arvind Sawant, sprang a surprise by defeating Congress MP Milind Deora from Mumbai South constituency by about 128,000 votes. Sawant was said to be a lightweight, and Deora's defeat came in the backdrop of the «Modi wave». In 2019 Deora was expected to give a tougher fight, but Sawant won again, this time by about 100,000 votes. Deora is now in the Shiv Sena but the party has fielded its Byculla MLA Yamini Jadhav, setting up a contest between the two factions of the erstwhile party, as Sawant is the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) candidate. The Mumbai South constituency presents a paradox — with tall skyscrapers housing billionaires and millionaires while sharing space with slum dwellers and mill workers who live in 90 square feet and 250 sq ft homes respectively.

UPS Remark Election Injustice community Arsenal BJP fends off 'statute change' charge in some Maharashtra seats after Hegde's comment
Congress' campaign trail. BJP is also smarting under the remarks made by its Karnataka leader Anantkumar Hegde, who in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls said that BJP would need a two-thirds majority to change the Constitution. This has turned into a convenient weapon in the Maharashtra Opposition parties' arsenal as they have successfully spun out a narrative that if BJP comes to power, it would remove reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs. BJP has got vibes from the ground that there is a consolidation of Scheduled Caste community votes against BJP in the state. BJP has tried to counter this charge with the PM repeatedly alleging 'Congress injustice' on SCs, STs and OBCs and pointing to Karnataka's reservation for Muslims under the OBC quota. BJP's repeated emphasis on SCs, STs and OBCs comes as it senses that poll arithmetic in Maharashtra has changed considerably since the 2019 parliamentary polls. This time it looks like the Dalits and Muslims seem to be backing Congress-Sena-NCP (SP) alliance in the state.

online shoppers surveyed by community social media platform LocalCircles said they found ratings on the eCommerce sites and apps to be positively biased over the last 12 months, according to survey findings. Only nine per cent of eCommerce or online users said platforms have enabled an interface to easily spot sponsored or influencer reviews and ratings, while just 16 per cent of consumers felt their negative reviews were always published in the last year. The survey assumes significance given that the government is considering making it mandatory for e-commerce companies to comply with quality norms for consumer reviews after a voluntary push failed to effectively curb fake reviews.
