Provident Cooper Injustice country voice social Support Former law ministers support women's reservation bill, question 'delay' of nine years
women's reservation bill introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, but some of them questioned the «delay» of nine years by the Modi government despite enjoying a majority in Parliament. Veerappa Moily and Kapil Sibal, who were Union law ministers during the UPA rule, attacked the BJP for not supporting the Congress earlier for passage of the bill. Ramakant Khalap and Ashwani Kumar said it was a long-due move to address the aspiration of the people of India that women get proper representation in legislatures. The bill is aimed at expanding women's participation in Lok Sabha and state assemblies across the country. Senior Congress leader Moily told PTI that introducing the Bill when the elections are approaching is «absolutely political» and the government does not have a legitimate interest in women as a class. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal said if it was not a «political move» and was really for the empowerment of women, the Centre should have moved it in 2014 when the BJP-led government came to power.

Cooper Manufacturing Southern Maharashtra bans interstate sale of sugarcane as drought cuts production
Maharashtra government has restricted sugarcane farmers from selling their produce outside the state in a bid to ensure that there is enough cane for the state’s mills to run at maximum capacity. Erratic rainfall this year has led to a drought-like situation in Maharashtra, the country’s second-largest sugar producer, and it is likely to see a big drop in sugarcane yield. Lower availability of cane leads to competition among sugar factories for the crop, resulting in mills poaching cane in each other's jurisdiction. Farmers prefer to sell their sugarcane to the mills that pay higher prices. The Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation, also known as the Sakhar Sangh, the apex body representing the co-operative sugar mills from the state had written to the state government about the need to take measures to ensure availability of sugarcane for the state’s sugar mills. «The co-operative sugar mills from the state are likely to face an acute shortage of sugarcane, which can reduce the number of days for which they can operate,» said the Sakhar Sangh in a letter to the government.

UPS BLOCK Reuters Cooper Fighting concert Deal US sees big gains if Mideast mega-deal sealed - but at what price?
Biden administration is pressing ahead with a concerted effort to strike a «grand bargain» in the Middle East that includes normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, calculating that the U.S. could reap big rewards if it can overcome steep obstacles. President Joe Biden's aides have made this diplomatic push a foreign policy priority despite varying degrees of skepticism by experts on whether the timing, conditions and current regional leadership are right for a mega-deal that could reshape the geopolitics of the Middle East. This marks a dramatic reversal for a president who had spent much of his term shying away from deeper diplomatic involvement in the region's troubles, raising questions about why he has committed to such a challenging goal, what he stands to gain and whether he might end up paying too high a price. A bid to broker relations between longtime foes Israel and Saudi Arabia is the centerpiece of complex negotiations that involve discussions of U.S.
