In an interactive session at industry chamber ASSOCHAM, Jaishankar, at the same time, said he was not asking the Indian industry to not do business with that country. To a question on evolving relations with China, he said with that country accounting for 32-33 percent of global manufacturing, it is logical that several supply chains will have to go through China.

The external affairs minister said there are countries which are looking at Trump 2.0 as a political challenge but for India, it is not the case. «We'll have to work out a political equation with America and that is one area where we score because we've always had a positive political relationship with Trump. RS witnesses uproarious scenes as BJP MP raises 'attacks' on India's interests from abroad
Rajya Sabha on Thursday witnessed uproarious scenes in the morning when BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged attacks by foreign forces on India's national interests and demanded a thorough probe besides asking all MPs to discuss the serious issue. Speaking on 'Concerns over Suspicious and Conspicuous Attacks on National Interest from Abroad' during Zero Hour, Trivedi cited instances during the past three years wherein issues concerning India were raised by international entities just before or during Parliament sessions. He cited examples of the Hindenburg report, Covid vaccine report and one on Indian farmers, a BBC documentary, Pegasus issue and a video on violence against women in Manipur during the past three years. He also cited the recent report on the indictment of an Indian business house by a US attorney just ahead of the Winter Session. «Ever since India is emerging as a strategic, economic and diplomatic power, it has been seen that in the last three years there have been attempts to attack India's established systems and interests on economic and social fronts through activities from abroad,» he said.

CEA nudges private sector to hire more, says economic health pretty good
Chief economic advisor (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran on Thursday nudged the private corporate sector to hire more and find the “right balance between capital-intensive and labour-intensive growth”, underling that while profits of private listed companies, as a percentage of GDP, hit a 15-year high in March 2024, their wage cost increase dwindled. Without a judicious balance between the share of corporations’ income making up their profits and that going to workers as wages, there won’t be adequate demand in the economy for companies’ own products to be bought, the CEA said. Sustained income growth bolsters both consumption and savings, which eventually spur economic expansion. “In other words, not paying workers well or not hiring workers enough will end up being actually self-destructive or harmful for the corporate sector itself and for small enterprises,” Nageswaran said, stressing that even legendary economist Adam Smith had written The Theory of Moral Sentiments before his seminal work--The Wealth of Nations.

The channel check by Motilal Oswal which is a securities firm, suggests that the festival demand was not very strong for consumer durable. Diwali and Durga Puja, since they were celebrated closely, do you think they cannibalised the sales for each other? B Thiagarajan: As far as room air conditioners is concerned, we had a fantastic festival season as well. In fact, the growth was more than 30%. It is probable that other durables did not do well, but very clearly air conditioners business has been growing and it continues even today.

Bangladesh's Muhammad Yunus urges unity to counter 'Indian aggression'
Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday urged the country's politicians to keep differences at bay and put up a united front to counter "Indian aggression". The Muslim-majority nation saw a student-led uprising in August, toppling autocratic premier Sheikh Hasina and ending her 15-year rule. India — Hasina's biggest international patron and the destination of her exile — has accused Yunus' administration of failing to protect minority Hindus, straining ties between the neighbours.
