Dartmouth College and an inventor of the simplified computer programming language known as BASIC, which allowed students to easily operate early computers and eventually propelled generations into the world of personal computing, died Tuesday in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was 96. The cause of his death, in a hospice, was multiple organ failure from sepsis, said Agnes Kurtz, his wife. In the early 1960s, before the days of laptops and smartphones, a computer was the size of a small car and an institution like Dartmouth, where Kurtz taught, had just one. Programming one was the province of scientists and mathematicians, specialists who understood the nonintuitive commands used to manipulate data through the hulking machines, which processed data in large batches, an effort that sometimes took days or weeks to complete.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's younger brother N Ramamurthy Naidu passed away at a private super-speciality hospital here on Saturday, while undergoing treatment for health complications, the hospital said. He was 72. Ramamurthy Naidu, who was admitted to the hospital on November 14 following a cardiac arrest, breathed his last at 12.45 PM, the hospital said in a bulletin. Ramamurthy Naidu was suffering from "non-communicating normal pressure hydrocephalus (buildup of fluid in brain), post VP shunt", it said. He was receiving intermittent ventilatory support in the past for respiratory distress.

New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday after the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express failed to depart on time, even though its scheduled departure time of 7:20 am had passed. As per reports, the delay was caused by a logistical mistake: an entire coach, including an executive class compartment, was missing from the train. A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed large groups of passengers confronting Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel and other officials, seeking answers. Income Tax Department has not extended the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) for FY 2023-24 for taxpayers subject to audit and other designated income taxpayers. Earlier, the tax department extended the deadline by 15 days for ITR filing for FY 2023-24 for audit cases from the original deadline of October 31, 2024. However, telecom operators are mounting a pushback seeking for the band to remain licensed and available for cellular connectivity. As a result, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has been putting off its decision on delicensing the band with telecom operators, broadband providers as well as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) caught in the tussle. So, Wi-Fi 7 enabled products are not being allowed to enter the market, with the PlayStation 5 Pro the most recent example. To work around this, chipset makers like Qualcomm and MediaTek are pushing ahead with Wi-Fi 7 products in India. A top Qualcomm executive said that gearmakers are currently working around the ban by not opting for 6GHz support in new routers. Instead, they continue to support 2.5GHz and 5GHz bands which are combined to give a higher bandwidth. The 6GHz spectrum, which spans from 5925-7125MHz, is considered ideal for both 5G services and Wi-Fi use due to its capability to deliver higher bandwidth. Telcos fear that free use of the band for Wi-Fi would eat into their revenue.
