Slum area in Mumbai declines by 8.6% over 17 years: Study
The study, which focused on Greater Mumbai and Thane, found that the area covered by slums dropped from 47.7 square kilometres in 2005 to 43.6 square kilometres in 2022. However, this overall decline masks a more complex pattern: some slums expanded, others shrank, and some disappeared entirely over the past two decades. Specifically, slums in certain areas reduced by 10.2 square kilometers, while others grew by 6.1 square kilometres, according to the TOI report. In addition to changes in size, slums became denser after 2010. John Friesen, the lead author of the study, explained, “While slums grew in area in the first decade, they densified in the second.”

Rivals of ousted Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina foil her party's attempt to hold a rally
Sheikh Hasina on Sunday thwarted a plan by her Awami League party to hold a rally in Bangladesh's capital, seen as a potential first effort to make a comeback on the streets since she fled the country in August amid a mass uprising. The rally in Dhaka by Hasina's party was to commemorate the death of a party activist on Nov. 10, 1987, which had sparked a mass protest against former military dictator H.M. Ershad. He was eventually ousted from office, ending his nine-year rule in 1990. The day is commemorated as «democracy day.» In 1991, Bangladesh switched to a parliamentary democracy from a presidential form of government, and since then Hasina and her rival, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, became the most powerful political figures in the country.

Best large & mid cap funds to invest in November 2024
mutual funds invest most of their corpus in the large and mid cap stocks. As per the Sebi mandate, these schemes are open-ended equity schemes that invest a minimum of 35% of total assets in large cap companies, and a minimum of 35% of total assets in mid cap stocks. However, this definition does not tell the whole story about the large & mid cap category. Consider this: The 35% mandatory investments in mid cap stocks make them risky. However, they are less risky than pure mid cap schemes that invest around 65% in mid cap stocks. Also, the 35% investments in large cap investments offer them some stability. But they are riskier than pure large cap schemes. Then there is the question of the remaining 30% of the corpus. The fund manager has the option to decide where the money will be invested. If he thinks the large cap space is attractive, he may invest in large cap stocks. If he thinks mid cap and small cap stocks are poised to take off, he may invest in them. As you can see, these investments may increase or decrease the risk in these schemes.
