The ‘Indian baddie’ moment does not impress Indian women—It only reveals the West’s colonial hangover
There’s been a curious phenomenon on my social media feeds over the last few weeks: The internet has suddenly discovered Indian women, and decided that we are... ‘hot.’The so-called rise of the Indian ‘baddie’ (Gen-Z slang for a woman who is attractive and stylish) has been fuelled by widely shared clips on TikTok and Instagram of young South Asian women dancing and singing along at pop star Tyla’s recent concert in Mumbai.

With e-bus tender done, CESL trains focus on electric trucks
₹10,900-crore PM E-Drive scheme, two people aware of the development said. This comes less than a fortnight after CESL concluded the country’s largest electric bus tender of 10,900 units under the PM E-Drive scheme, which seeks to accelerate adoption of electric mobility and focuses on public transport, freight, and ambulances to reduce carbon emissions.CESL’s plan involves reducing the upfront cost of these e-trucks and setting up electric vehicle (EV) chargers by building scale through demand aggregation. CESL, the subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), has started talks with Indian ports that are big users of trucks to ferry goods, said the first of the two persons cited earlier, both of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity. This focus on e-trucks comes at a time when the incentives for two- and three-wheelers under the PM E-Drive scheme are set to lapse in March 2026.“CESL is looking to become the nodal agency for e-trucks also, now that the e-bus tender is done,” said the person cited above, referring to the recently-concluded tender for 10,900 e-buses.“There have been talks for becoming the nodal agency, and some talks with 1-2 ports also.

I made 342% on silver—and still think it was a poor investment
silver bars at ₹55,000 per kg, however, I harboured no such illusions of heroism. I was not riding in to save anyone. My motivation was entirely selfish: to protect a slice of my savings from becoming worthless in a troubled world.Today, at indicative prices of around ₹2,43,000 per kg, I have sold that silver.Selling it, I discovered, was a journey in itself.

Sameer Hamdani's ‘City of Kashmir’: How Srinagar lost its cosmopolitan identity
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Historically, for the people of Kashmir, there is only one shahr or city, writes Sameer Hamdani in his new book City of Kashmir—Srinagar: A Popular History. Depending on which part of Kashmir you are in, you are either going up (khasun) or down (vasun) to Srinagar. The common inclination is to look at Srinagar through the prism of militancy, violence and stone-pelting—like a fault line, there’s a clear demarcation between before and after 1990’s Srinagar.

Man lives like a 'timeless' caveman for experiment, discovers bizarre secret about the human mind
Michel Siffre undertook a radical self-experiment: to live in complete isolation inside a glacier cave in the Scarasson mountain in the Ligurian Alps—130 meters below the surface—for over two months. Inspired by the space race and the psychological challenges astronauts might face, Siffre aimed to understand how the human body perceives time in the absence of natural cues like sunlight or clocks. “This idea came to me—this idea that became the idea of my life,” Siffre later told Cabinet Magazine. “I decided to live like an animal, without a watch, in the dark, without knowing the time.”

Airport server mistakes checkbook for tip, what he found inside was heartbreaking
Planet Hollywood in Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) had become second nature. He had spent years in the service industry, ensuring that customers had a pleasant dining experience before catching their flights. But on March 21, what started as a routine shift took an unexpected and disheartening turn. According to a report from KTLA, toward the end of his shift, Ortiz was serving a couple who, at first, seemed no different from any other travelers passing through the bustling airport restaurant. He greeted them with his usual warmth, took their order, and provided the kind of attentive service he had perfected over the years. But something about their demeanor felt off. “The way they were looking at me—you can tell when something isn’t right,” Ortiz later recalled.

View: Will Trump's tariffs lift the veil on India's drug safety problem?
Donald Trump’s tariffs. Some are confident that whatever is announced on Wednesday will not hurt them; others are genuinely uncertain how to manage if they can’t export to the US. The pharmaceutical industry — which is well known globally for churning out generic drugs that are the backbone of many countries’ health systems — should be particularly worried. Over 30% of Indian pharma exports go to the US, and it provides an even larger proportion of earnings. Trump has promised, in the past, that levies on pharma imports would begin at 25%, similar to what he imposed on cars recently. But the president seems to have walked that back more recently, perhaps because the administration is uncertain of the consequences of a sharp rise in the price of off-patent drugs.

China discovers major new oilfield off Shenzhen
The Huizhou 19-6 oilfield lies about 170 kilometres (100 miles) from Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province, Beijing's Xinhua news agency said. Test drilling has yielded a daily production of 413 barrels of crude oil and 68,000 cubic meters of natural gas, the CNOOC said. The state-owned oil giant's CEO, Zhou Xinhuai, hailed «successive breakthroughs in oil and gas exploration in the eastern waters of the South China Sea». CNOOC «has discovered 100-million-ton oilfields for two consecutive years, which creates a new growth pole for the continuous growth in offshore oil and gas production,» he added.

Inspection reveals shortcomings of auditor affiliates
SRBC (SR Batliboi), Walker Chandiok (WCCL) and Deloitte Haskins & Sells (Deloitte) have once again brought to light critical issues such as auditor independence, the provision of non-audit services to audit clients, deficiencies in quality control frameworks, and conflicts of interest, raising concerns about whether top audit firms are responding quickly enough to meet regulatory requirements. A key concern for the regulator, the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), has been that despite affiliations with global networks, each firm operating locally has not aligned its internal audit policies and procedures with Indian regulatory norms, particularly Sections 141 and 144 of the Companies Act and the ICAI Code of Ethics. Section 141 addresses the eligibility, qualifications, and disqualifications of auditors, whereas Section 144 prohibits auditors from providing certain services to the company or its subsidiaries. They reviewed SRBC in 2024 for compliance with previous findings and evaluated three FY23 audits, focusing on revenue-related internal controls, related-party transactions, and non-financial asset impairment. The regulator found that despite being a member of Ernst & Young Global since 2013, SRBC's policies fail to consider their relationships with network firms.
