No hopes from MVA or Mahayuti, says Jarange Patil
Maratha reservation agitation, Manoj Jarange Patil, might have decided not to contest this time's elections, but he remains one of the key deciding factors in the Maharashtra poll landscape. Patil asked several of his supporters not to contest elections after many of them filled their nomination forms. He enjoys a cult-figure status among the old and young as many touch his feet and seek his guidance on whom they should vote. Sitting with ET, Patil maintains that he has «only one cause and that is for Marathas to get reservation. And his cause has united six crore Marathas across Maharashtra». When asked whether Mahayuti or MVA can support the Maratha cause, he responds «all are the same». He says he will step up his agitation after the election process gets over. «Let me make it clear to you. Neither am I supporting anyone nor opposing anyone. I have no hopes from anyone except my movement,» Patil said.

Trump to push self-driving vehicles in boost to Tesla
Donald Trump's transition team have told advisers they plan to make a federal framework for fully self-driving vehicles one of the Transportation Department's priorities, according to people familiar with the matter. If new rules enable cars without human controls, it will directly benefit Elon Musk, the Tesla chief executive officer and Trump mega-donor who's become a powerful fixture in the president-elect's inner circle. He's bet the future of the EV maker on self-driving technology and artificial intelligence. Tesla's stock rose more than 7% shortly after the market open Monday, extending their 28% advance since election day. Shares of Uber and Lyft, who could face competition from Musk's long-planned robotaxi network, each fell more than 6% in intraday trading.

US government shutdown deadline date is nearing. Does Donald Trump have a role to play?
Lawmakers face a December 20 deadline either to adopt a budget or to pass a so-called continuing resolution to keep federal agencies operating temporarily. A failure to act would mean governmental paralysis, AFP reported. The Congress, which has been in recess for more than a month because of the national elections, returns on Tuesday. Newly elected members are not sworn in until January.

Sri Lankan President Dissanayaka opts for smaller Cabinet with fresh faces
Anura Kumara Dissanayaka on Monday appointed a 21-member Cabinet in the new NPP government, keeping with his pre-election promise to streamline the governance system and ease the burden on taxpayers. The National People's Power (NPP) has been advocating a smaller government to reduce costs for the public. Since the NPP won the presidential election in September, the government functioned with just 3 ministers, including the President. As per the island nation's Constitution, there is a provision for appointing a 30-member Cabinet. Dissanayaka retained the finance and defence portfolios, while appointing 12 new parliament members to key positions and entrusting eight veteran members, who have served since 2000, with significant responsibilities.

Gadkari lauded former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for strengthening the road infrastructure in the country. The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways was addressing a public meeting at Sadak Arjuni in Gondia district while campaigning for NCP candidate Rajkumar Badole for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls.

Nomura expects Fed to pause rate-cut cycle in December
U.S. Federal Reserve is no longer expected to cut interest rates at its December policy meeting, Nomura has said, making it the first global brokerage to signal a pause in the central bank's rate-cutting cycle in the wake of Donald Trump's election win. Nomura now expects the Fed to deliver only two 25-basis-point (bp) rate reductions at its March and June meetings in 2025, leaving the brokerage's Fed funds rate projection unchanged at 4.125% through next year. The Fed's benchmark overnight interest rate is currently in the 4.50%-4.75% range. It has cut rates by 75 bps in 2024.

J'khand CM accuses BJP of launching 'whisper campaign' to tarnish JMM-led govt
BJP of maligning his and Jharkhand's image through shadow campaigns, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday charged the saffron party with launching a "whisper campaign" by spending over Rs 1 crore in each assembly constituency to influence voters. Soren accused the BJP of bringing in people from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Bengal to carry out this new gimmick, allegedly instilling fear among voters on roads and intersections during the election period. Earlier, Soren had accused the BJP of running «shadow campaigns» to tarnish both his and the state's reputation. He alleged that the saffron party spent crores of rupees on various social media platforms and created «95,000 WhatsApp groups» to campaign against the JMM-led coalition in Jharkhand.

Many CM faces in MVA, will decide after polls: Congress leader Naseem Khan
Arif Naseem Khan has said there are many chief ministerial faces in the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the alliance will taken a decision on it after the election results are announced. In an interview to PTI, the former four-term MLA Khan also claimed the Mahayuti government's flagship Ladki Bahin scheme for women will not be a game changer as people in the state know the «real face» of the BJP and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He asserted the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was united and set to defeat the BJP-led Mahayuti government, which he claimed has turned immensely unpopular. The state assembly polls are scheduled on November 20 and votes will be counted on November 23.

Defeat Ajit's faction in a 'big' way: Sharad Pawar to voters
Sharad Pawar has cautioned his detractors that they should mess with anyone but him and appealed to voters to not just defeat those who rebelled under Ajit Pawar, but «defeat them big» in the Maharashtra assembly polls. Addressing a rally at Madha in Solapur district on Sunday ahead of the November 20 state polls, Sharad Pawar recounted an episode of defection that led to him losing the post of leader of opposition in the assembly almost five decades ago and his resolve that led to the defeat of all those who had backstabbed him. «In the elections of 1980, 58 persons won polls from our party and I became leader of opposition. I had gone abroad and when I came back I realised Chief Minister AR Antulay saheb had done some miracle and 52 of the 58 MLAs had switched sides. I lost the post of LoP,» he said. «I did nothing (at the time). I just started reaching out to people across the state and worked hard for three years. In the next elections, I fielded young candidates against all 52 MLAs who had left me. I am proud of the people of Maharashtra that all 52 who left me were defeated,» he told the gathering.

Donald Trump Jr says pushback against Cabinet picks proves they are the disrupters voters wanted
Donald Trump Jr said on Sunday that any pushback from the Washington establishment around his father's unconventional choices for Cabinet proves they are just the kind of disruptors that voters are demanding. The younger Trump insisted the team now around the president-elect knows how to build out an administration, unlike when his father first took office. «The reality this time is, we actually know what we're doing. We actually know who the good guys and the bad guys are,» he told Fox News Channel's «Sunday Morning Futures». «And it's about surrounding my father with people who are both competent and loyal. They will deliver on his promises. They will deliver on his message. They are not people who think they know better, as unelected bureaucrats.» After Donald Trump was elected in 2016, he stocked his early administration with choices from traditional Republican and business circles, tapping figures such as former Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, who was his first as secretary of state.

US futures gained, after the S&P 500 slid 1.3% on Friday to erase more than half of its gains following the US election.
