AFSPA removed from most parts of northeast: Govt
Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, which gives sweeping powers to the armed forces operating in disturbed areas to search, arrest and open fire if they deem it necessary, has been removed from most parts of the northeast, except a few districts and some police station areas, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said there has been a considerable reduction in the number of «disturbed areas» under the AFSPA and the law has been withdrawn completely from Tripura (from May 27, 2015) and Meghalaya (April 1, 2018). The AFSPA has also been withdrawn from all districts except four in Assam, he said. Rai said the AFSPA has been withdrawn gradually in Arunachal Pradesh and it is currently applicable only in three police station areas in Namsai district and three other districts — Tirap, Changlang and Longding.

As Bangladesh descends into chaos, India’s trade and security hang in balance
Mint the political crisis in Bangladesh could hinder India’s plans to boost exports to the neighbouring country. “If the situation worsens, which is highly possible, Bangladesh may stop importing Indian goods and seek other countries to meet their domestic needs," the official said, declining to be identified. Other experts said India faces losses in multiple trade segments due to the Bangladesh crisis, which could turn into opportunities for competitors like Vietnam and China.

Explained: How Sheikh Hasina’s resignation will impacts India-Bangladesh ties
Sheikh Hasina's resignation as Prime Minister and departure from Bangladesh created multiple uncertainties for India. For over one-and-a-half decade she was New Delhi’s strongest ally, and during this time, India-Bangladesh relations reached new heights. The bilateral ties flourished with advances in cross-border trade, transit arrangements, security collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges. However, Hasina’s ouster casts doubt on these achievements. The protests that led to her departure also carried an anti-India sentiment, given the close association perceived between Hasina and New Delhi.

Aaditya Thackeray slams Maharashtra govt for Coastal Road hoarding plan; Deora hits back
Aaditya Thackeray claimed that the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government was creating space for a minimum of four to five hoardings along the Coastal Road when there is no space for them. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora, however, asked Thackeray to present a «real agenda» for Mumbai's development instead of writing «love letters» to the civic authorities. Thackeray claimed the state government plans to prop up huge hoardings in the open spaces near Haji Ali and Amarsons Park/ Breach Candy of the Coastal Road gardens. «They've delayed the coastal road… escalated the cost...For electoral credit, they opened the wrong lanes without planning. There is absolutely no word or communication with local MP, MLAs and ALMs on landscaping and gardening,» he said in a post on 'X'.
