Operation Brahma: Teams begin rescue ops at U hla thein monastery
NDRF) team has begun rescue operations under Operation Brahma at the U hla thein monastery, where around 170 monks are still stuck, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Monday. The Army team will visit the hospital site on Monday and will setup their Medical Services on Tuesday. The NDRF are also trying to get the NDRF team deployed at the Sky Villa (where four towers of 11 storeys each have collapsed). The towers have several foreigners. The relief material (arriving tomorrow) will also be given to the Secretary General of state Mahanayak Committee (2nd highest of the Committee in Myanmar) where around 2,000 monks are sitting outside the monastery. The monks are not injured, but they have nowhere to go and have no basic amenities. Teams will also be deployed to the Mandalay Palace, Maha Muni Pagoda, MIIT, and other such places where substantial damage has occurred. The teams are providing assistance to members of Indian community for their stay and food. Rescue efforts are underway in Myanmar after a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the country, killing at least 1,700 people and leaving widespread destruction in its wake. The quake, which was felt as far away as Bangkok and Chinese provinces, has left many more injured or trapped under rubble, CNN reported.

Costco’s brand-new carrot cake bar divides the internet over 1 ingredient
Costco has brought back its beloved carrot cake in a new bar-shaped form this time. The three-layer dessert features a moist spiced carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, and chopped walnuts. The dessert is priced at $18.99 (£15). But the look is not the only thing that has changed about the dessert. The retailer has added one ingredient to its cake which has resulted in an uproar among the customers. The addition of raisins in their carrot cake has driven a wedge amongst those who enjoy the cake. According to reports, carrot cake enthusiasts are split on whether raisins belong in the classic recipe. Some have argued that it adds texture and sweetness, while others have insisted that it ruins the cake’s flavour.

Govt to impose strict penalties on sugar mills violating stock holding limits
Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry said on Friday. The ministry prescribes monthly stock holding limits for white/refined sugar to prevent hoarding and control price increases. For April, the stock holding limit is set at 23.5 lakh tonnes. In a directive issued to mills, the ministry said it has found repeated violations by some group and individual sugar mills despite previous warnings, prompting the issuance of new, stricter guidelines. Key penalties include: for first-time violations, 100 per cent of excess sugar sold will be deducted from the subsequent month's release quota. Subsequent violations will see progressively higher deductions: 115 per cent for the second, 130 per cent for the third, and 150 per cent for the fourth violation. Mills dispatching less than 90 per cent of quota without intimation will have restricted future allocations.

Delhi HC rules service charges or tips on food bills voluntary, not mandatory
It upheld the 2022 guidelines issued by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) that prohibited hotels and restaurants from automatically levying a 'service charge' on food bills, reinforcing that these payments must remain voluntary. Dismissing the petitions filed by the Federation of Hotels and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) and the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), which challenged the CCPA’s power to issue such guidelines, Justice Prathiba M Singh said that the Authority is not merely a recommendatory body but is fully empowered and has the jurisdiction to pass the guidelines under the CPA, 2019. “In fact, issuing guidelines in consumer interest is an essential function of CCPA and the guidelines would have to be mandatorily complied with as the scheme of the Act clearly provides for enforcement of guidelines, which would not curtail fundamental rights it held.

Best Food for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025: The best dishes to celebrate the festive feast
Due to the incredible diversity of Muslim communities in the subcontinent, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and multicultural Australia, households and cultures prepare and consume Eid al-Fitr foods in unique ways. Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr after observing Ramadan, the holy month of prayer and fasting, which is just a few days away. Families gather and celebrate with a feast of food, which is a staple of any celebration, while the day begins with prayer and customs. Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated differently in each Muslim culture. In Turkey, for example, children receive candy and sugar-coated almonds as part of the celebration. Sweets such as Ghoriba Bahla, Fekkas, and Kaab el Ghazal are essential to Moroccan holiday celebrations. In Indonesia, however, celebrations include the preparation of traditional foods such as Ketupat, which is considered a symbol of blessings and forgiveness.
