NIA unearthed the attack plot after recovery of a cell phone belonging to a Pakistani militant, Mohammed Umar Farooq (24), killed a month after the attack.

Clashes broke out between police and BJP supporters several times as BJP workers led by Majumdar attempted to break prohibitory orders near the SP's office in Basirhat amidst protests by the saffron party over alleged assaults and harassment of women in the Sandeshkhali block. Majumdar stated, «The attack was pre-planned. It was orchestrated by the police to injure me and attack us. We had written a letter to the Police Superintendent about our apprehensions of an attack. But the Police did not pay any heed to it.»

Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said the Centre is going to spend Rs 2 lakh crore on road infrastructure in Uttarakhand and its roads will be like those in the United States by the end of 2024. Gadkari was speaking on the occasion of national highway projects worth over Rs 2,000 crore in Tanakpur. «Rs 1.40 crore is being spent in Uttarakhand over road infrastructure at present to which an additional Rs 60 crore will soon be added to make it a total expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore,» Gadkari said. «In the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami I want to announce that by the end of 2024, the national highways in Uttarakhand will be matching international standards. They will be like those in the US,» he added.
