Experts suggest Aadhaar number to better manage recycling of batteries
India's e-mobility R&D roadmap has suggested an Aadhaar number for batteries to keep a digital record of its material composition, usage history and end of life management as part of efforts to streamline the recycling process. The suggestion is part of the eMobility R&D Roadmap for India, released by Principal Scientific Adviser to the government Prof A K Sood, that lists out 34 research projects to become self-reliant and emerge as a global leader in providing innovative mobility solutions. «This roadmap aims to fill critical gaps in the current research and development framework. While many identified projects are yet to achieve global success, some areas already demonstrate significant international accomplishments where India is yet to commence preparations,» said Prof Karthick Athmanathan, a member of the Consultative Group of e-Mobility Advisory Committee. The roadmap has listed 34 projects for research and development across four broad areas — energy storage cells, EV aggregates, materials and recycling, charging and refueling.

Chhagan Bhujbal-Sharad Pawar meet raises eyebrows in Ajit Pawar's camp
Maharashtra minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal on Monday met Sharad Pawar, who heads the rival NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), in what is seen as a sign of continuing churn in state politics and leaders hedging their bets. The meeting, which Bhujbal claimed was to discuss the tensions between OBC and Maratha communities over the latter's demand to be included in the OBC category to gain reservation benefits, has raised eyebrows in the Ajit Pawar camp as sections of leaders in the group believe he is looking to switch sides. «I came to meet him not as an MLA or a minister or even as a party leader. I came to meet him as there is an explosive situation in some districts of Maharashtra as tensions are running high between the Dalit and Maratha communities. People from both communities are boycotting each other's business. I have come to meet Pawar saheb to seek his help in resolving these tensions before this leads to arson and violence,» said Bhujbal.

Working on investment to support workers who would lose jobs at UK unit: Tata's N Chandrasekaran
Tata Steel is working with the UK government and unions to ensure an adequate level of investment for supporting skill development of workers who would be impacted due to the modernisation of its Port Talbot plant, according to the company's chairman N Chandrasekaran. As part of its decarbonisation plan, Tata Steel is shifting to a low-emission electric arc furnace (EAF) process from an ageing blast furnace at Port Talbot mill, resulting in job losses of around 2,500 people. Addressing the 117th Annual General Meeting of Tata Steel on Monday, Chandrasekaran said that the company recognises that this transformation is difficult from an execution perspective and also difficult for some of the employees who will not have a future with Tata Steel, especially in the UK. «The company is working with the government and with the unions to make sure that we do sufficient level of investment to be able to support them in their skill development so they can have a better future.

India needs robust security measures to safeguard wind sector from cyber threats
Niti Aayog has said. Niti Aayog, in a report titled 'Domestic Manufacturing Capacity & Potential Cyber Security Challenges in the Wind Sector and Way Forward', said wind turbines' capability to exchange information through power plant controllers (PPC) poses a significant cybersecurity threat. «The PPC software is of critical importance and associated with risks — used in the device which connects the wind farm directly to the national/state grid. »PPC OEMs of foreign origin, especially neighbouring countries, need to be examined, and a call needs to be taken for their suspension while not adhering to the protocol," it said.

The AI invasion has begun, and we are not ready
For decades, humans have fantasized about the day machines take over and give mankind their comeuppance (just behind those pesky Martians). Sentient technology has not yet arrived to conquer us, but Moore’s Law is in full effect, and machinery has surpassed humankind in its ability to process information and data. Now, thanks to machine learning, computers can evaluate alternative scenarios beyond our capabilities. What does it mean for wealth management, and how should we mortals use what’s coming to help us improve the world, rather than concede defeat to it?

Delhi HC permits woman to medically terminate 32-week pregnancy
Delhi High Court has allowed a 31-year-old woman to undergo medical termination of her pregnancy of over 32 weeks due to the foetus's abnormalities, which posed a substantial risk of physical and mental handicap. Justice Sanjeev Narula, allowing the woman's plea seeking permission to undergo an abortion, said the continuation of the pregnancy poses a significant risk to the petitioner's physical and mental health and is likely to result in the birth of a child with severe health issues. The judge, following a report given by the doctors of AIIMS, concluded that permitting the termination of the pregnancy was in the best interest of both the petitioner and the foetus. «In the opinion of the court, the diagnosis in the present case clearly qualifies as substantial foetal abnormality with substantial risk of physical and mental handicap,» the court said in its order passed on July 13.

At least 33 major health insurance companies join govt's centralised claims-related info exchange
health insurance companies in India, at least 33 have joined the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), a centralized platform developed by the government for the exchange of insurance claims-related information, ToI reported on July 15. Currently, insurance claims are processed through multiple platforms, leading to delays. The implementation of NHCX will streamline this process. According to government sources, some companies have already started trialing the NHCX for claims processing, with an official launch expected soon. A senior official of the National Health Authority (NHA), which developed the centralized platform, elucidated, «Citizens will also be able to see the status of their insurance claim through the mobile.»

Champions Trophy: BCCI should give in writing that Indian Govt has declined permission to play in Pakistan, says PCB
Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board wants the BCCI to provide written proof of the Indian government's denial of permission in case the team refuses to come here for next year's Champions Trophy citing a travel ban on security grounds, a PCB source has said. The host Board also wants the matter to be sorted as soon as possible, given that the tournament is scheduled in February-March. While the ICC annual conference will be held in Colombo on July 19 doesn't have any discussion on 'Hybrid Model' about India playing their games in the UAE on its agenda, the global body as usual has earmarked additional fund in case it becomes a two-country tournament. «If the India government declines permission, it has to be in writing and it is mandatory on the BCCI to provide that letter to the ICC now,» the PCB source working closely with organizing committee told PTI.
