Diamond Harbour, Falta, Baduria, and North Bengal's Dinhata and in many other places, Hindus are prevented from voting. It was seen in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, last Panchayat polls and even in bypolls. More than two lakh voters were stopped in bypolls. I will organize a movement against this,» Adhikari said. At least 300 victims of post-poll violence, who are staying in the shelter of BJP today, joined the dharna today. Adhikari, senior leader Tathagata Ray, former BJP MP Arjun Singh, MLAs were present at the dharna. The Calcutta High Court has allowed Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari to hold a peaceful dharna outside Raj Bhavan on July 14 for four hours. Adhikari had sought permission from the Calcutta High Court to hold the dharna with alleged post-poll violence outside Raj Bhawan, where Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee held a demonstration in October, 2023 demanding MGNREGA dues for the deprived people.

Russia on Sunday said it had captured another village in south-eastern Ukraine as it continues to make battlefield gains in the conflict that is now into its third year. «Units from the Vostok troops captured the village of Urozhaine» in the Donetsk region, the Russian defence ministry announced in its daily report. The village was one of the few that Ukraine won back during its 2023 offensive.

Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with what they call the "hidden threat" of "conservation and consolidation" tactics employed by infiltrating terrorists, which was evident in the recent ambushes and encounters in North Kashmir and Kathua district. Analysing the ambushes and encounters with terrorists, officials in the know of the matter said while security agencies are on high alert, the lack of ground-level intelligence — human intelligence (HUMINT) — hampers operations. Reliance on technical intelligence (TECHINT) has not been fruitful as terrorists use online activity to mislead authorities. Officials feel that there is an urgent need for heightened surveillance to counter foreign terrorists, especially in the Jammu region. The region, previously known for its peaceful atmosphere, has recently seen a surge in terror incidents, particularly in border districts such as Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Reasi. Attacks on an IAF convoy, a pilgrim bus and the recent killing of soldiers in Kathua highlight the evolving threat.

Both governments should encourage enterprises that are willing to break new ground in investment and joint ventures, building leverage in fast-changing global marketplaces that lasts longer than trade partners.

Jitendra Singh on Saturday said holding only Pakistan responsible for the recent spike in terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir is not sufficient as he called for self-introspection to end illegal activities, which benefit terrorism in the Union Territory. He said the government is implementing a new strategy, which includes deployment of army in the higher reaches to ensure that peace is restored within one week in Kathua, where five army personnel were killed and an equal number injured in an ambush by the terrorists on July 8. «The recent terror incidents (in Jammu region) carried out by infiltrators from Pakistan is condemnable. But repeatedly saying that Pakistan has done this is not sufficient. We have to ask ourselves and inner-souls what we have done to end social evils which are benefitting terrorism,» the minister of state in the prime minister's office told reporters in Kathua. The minister was in Kathua, part of his Udhampur parliamentary constituency, for a 'Public Darbar' — his first after getting elected for the third term — to meet the public and resolve their issues. Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas and other officers were also present.

Manipur government has decided to convene the Manipur Legislative Assembly from July 31. Earlier on two occasions the 10 kuki MLAs were not present in the session. Manipur had two sessions since violence broke out on May 3 last year. The Manipur Cabinet, during its meeting held on Friday decided to convene the session of the assembly. Information and Public Relation minister Sapam Ranjan said that after the recent sitting of Manipur Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on March 5, the cabinet decided to convene the next session from July 31.

And the main task of this document is to prevent a geopolitical fault between East and West, sources here said. Tokayev noted that the Astana SCO summit will be held under the slogan “Strengthening multilateral dialogue — the pursuit of sustainable peace and development.”

Peace dialogue does not succeed amidst bombs, guns and bullets and no solution to any conflict is possible in the battlefield, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday as the two leaders held talks under the spectre of the Ukraine conflict. In his televised opening remarks, Modi conveyed to Putin and assured the world community that India is on the side of peace and was ready to contribute in ending the conflict in Ukraine. «For a bright future for the new generation, peace is most essential...Peace talks do not succeed amidst bombs, guns and bullets,» he said. The prime minister also referred to his informal meeting with Putin on Monday and said listening to the Russian president lent «hope».

Calling SCO a principle-based organization whose consensus drives the approach of its member states, PM Modi stated, «At this time, it is particularly noteworthy that we are reiterating mutual respect for sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, equality, mutual benefit, non-interference in internal affairs, non-use of force or threat of use of force as a basis for our foreign policies. We have also agreed not to take any measures contrary to the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity.»
