₹5,000 each for using Cauvery water for non-essential purposes amid the ongoing water crisis. So far, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) collected ₹1.1 lakh as a fine collectively, according to a report published by Deccan Herald. The BWSSB acted on the social media complaints alleging that people were using drinking water for unnecessary purposes, such as cleaning cars or gardening, the report said, adding that the authority's south division is reportedly strict about water wastage.

Gautam Duggad, Head Of Research — Institutional Equities, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, says that while valuations are expensive for mid and smallcaps, it is not correct to say that the entire mid and smallcap basket is frothy. The midcap index right now is trading at around 30% premium to Nifty. Nifty is trading at close to 19-19.5 times one year forward now and midcap index is trading at somewhere about 27 times which obviously is very expensive. Smallcaps are also trading at expensive valuation at an index level. Versus Nifty, on a 10-year basis, the long-period discount for smallcaps is 24%. Today it is trading at a 10% premium to largecap. Duggad also says the market has respected the underlying earnings growth. When earnings were tepid for 10 years between FY10 and FY20, the market was also tepid. In last four years, earnings have done well, so markets have also done well. You have a very wide universe of stocks which you track among all the brokerages and it is only becoming wider. A lot of midcap and smallcap stocks are represented in your universe. The entire argument that smallcap, midcap rally so far was not broadly justified and there was frothy valuations and earnings. What is the reality of the earnings? What part of the smallcap, midcaps are showing strength in earnings and which part is actually falling back? Gautam Duggad: It is always very simplistic to paint the market or any segment of the market with one brush.

Supreme Court on Thursday questioned the Centre over the procedure adopted for the appointment of election commissioners and asked how six names were shortlisted from 200 within a few hours. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta said the selection committee should have been given more time to apply its mind on the appointment of the election commissioners. «For one vacancy, there were five names. For two, you send six names. Why not 10? This is the language of the statute — for one vacancy, five names have to be recommended. This appears from the record,» the bench told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre. «They (the search committee) can consider 200 names, but what is the time given, maybe two hours? Two hundred names to be considered in two hours? You could have been transparent,» it said.

Bengaluru water crisis: In the wake of the prevailing water crisis in Bengaluru, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will commence the installation drive of tap aerators from Thursday, March 21, in a bid to conserve water. MUMBAI : The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Friday approved a slew of proposals, including exempting certain foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) from additional disclosure requirements, launch of beta version of the T+0 settlement, and facilitation of ease of doing business for companies going public. For ease of doing business, the markets regulator in its annual board meeting approved a proposal to exempt additional disclosure requirements for FPIs having more than 50% of their Indian equity assets under management (AUM) in a single corporate group, in case the concentrated holdings of the FPIs are in a listed company with no identified promoter, if certain conditions are met.
