BJP's Muraleedharan urges Kerala govt to enforce new law to curb illegal migration
BJP leader V Muraleedharan on Saturday called on the Kerala government to strictly enforce the newly passed legislation aimed at curbing the influx of illegal migrants in the state. Addressing reporters here, he said a large number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are arriving in Kerala under the guise of guest workers, and stressed that the law should be implemented in the state without fail. The Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday, with Home Minister Amit Shah asserting that those who come to India for business, education and investment are welcome, but those who pose a threat to security will face stringent action. Muraleedharan also claimed that these illegal immigrants, posing as guest workers, are involved in the spread of narcotics in the state. «So, it is essential to implement the new law for the peaceful life and safety of ordinary people here,» he said. Criticising the Congress-led UDF over the matter, the former union minister alleged that the opposition front's approach in this regard is «disappointing».

Evaluating US additional steel, aluminium duties: Minister of state for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada
trade agreement (BTA) Friday. As of date, there has been no imposition of country-specific reciprocal tariffs by the US on India, he added. On March 12, US President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on imports of all steel and aluminium to limit imports and boost production domestically. These duties threaten an estimated $5 billion worth of engineering goods and almost $1 billion worth of aluminium exports to the US from India. The minister informed that India continues to engage with the US to achieve enhancement and broadening of bilateral trade ties in a mutually beneficial and fair manner. The two countries aim to more than double trade to $500 billion by 2030 to be achieved by deepening the trade. «Both countries have committed to negotiate a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement under which the countries would focus on increasing market access, reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, enhancing supply chain integration and resolving key trade issues bilaterally,» Prasada said. India and the US aim to negotiate the first tranche of the BTA by fall this year.

Trump administration sues to void union pacts across govt
Trump administration moved to invalidate contracts between a swath of US government agencies and the largest federal union representing their employees, in a sweeping attack on collective bargaining rights as the president aims to lay off government workers. In a lawsuit by the justice department, the defense department and other US agencies, the administration said collective bargaining agreements reached with local chapters of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) before Donald Trump took office are impeding his efforts to reform the government and pose a threat to national security. The legal move late Thursday came shortly after the US President signed an executive order directing agencies across the executive branch to cease collective bargaining with federal unions. According to AFGE's website, the union represents represents over 820,000 workers in nearly every agency of the federal and DC governments, spread across over 900 local unions.

India, Brazil, other emerging nations face higher risk of US reciprocal tariffs
Emerging economies such as India, Brazil and Vietnam, which impose tariff on American imports higher than what the US levies on them, face a high risk of reciprocal tariffs, global ratings agency Fitch said. “Brazil, India, Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa, Turkey and, on a simple average tariff basis, Vietnam and Indonesia, impose notably higher tariffs on exports from the US relative to tariffs imposed by the US on imports from these countries,” it said. US President Donald Trump has threatened with his reciprocal tariffs announcement on April 2 against trading partners he says have been “ripping off” the country by imposing high levies. As per the Fitch report, the tariffs in these economies were higher, both on a simple and trade-weighted average basis. “On a simple average basis, the highest differentials are in Brazil, India and Turkey,” Fitch said.

Melania Trump to be deported? Elon Musk's stern warning to Congresswoman over her shocking calls
Maxine Waters suggested that US President Donald Trump consider deporting his wife, Melania Trump, while criticizing his administration's immigration policies. Waters went after the First Lady of the United States at a Los Angeles rally protesting DOGE cuts, where she referenced Trump's executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship, which confers citizenship status on people born here. Trump has vowed to remove millions of migrants without legal status from the United States as part of his mass deportation program. «If he wants to start looking so closely to find those who were born here and their parents were undocumented, maybe he ought to first look at Melania,' she said, personalizing the political attack. When he [Trump] talks about birthright, and he's going to undo the fact that the Constitution allows those who are born here, even if the parents are undocumented, they have a right to stay in America,» she said at the rally. ALSO READ: 'I am almost done...': Elon Musk to step down from DOGE and quit Washington DC after $1 trillion in US govt cuts «We don't know whether or not her parents were documented. And maybe we better just take a look,» said Waters, who was among the first House Democrats calling to impeach Trump during his first term.
