Commerce minister Piyush Goyal has raised concerns over e-commerce platforms using predatory pricing to the detriment of traditional retailers. Goyal said the large amounts of investments being made by these platforms in India were to fund the losses that he suggested were a result of such pricing. “Are we going to cause huge, social disruption with this massive growth of e-commerce? I don’t see it as a matter of pride that half our market may become part of the e-commerce network 10 years from now; it is a matter of concern," he said.

Indian Army contingent on Thursday celebrated the 78th Indian Independence Day in joint exercise 'Mitra Shakti' with various activities, including a yoga session with their Sri Lankan counterparts. Jindal Stainless on Monday said it will manufacture customised stainless steel and speciality low-alloy steel sheets for defence projects of BrahMos Aerospace. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday said beneficiary families of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in the state will now receive LPG gas cylinders for Rs 500. This initiative will benefit approximately 46 lakh families with an annual income of less than Rs 1.80 lakh, Saini added during his address at a state-level event organised in Jind on the occasion of Hariyali Teej. Additionally, as part of the Mukhyamantri Dugdh Uphaar Yojana, fortified milk will be provided to schoolgirls aged 14 to 18 for 150 days to combat malnutrition, the chief minister said. He added that this programme is expected to support around 2.65 lakh adolescent girls, according to an official release.

Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced that under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), a penalty of 12 per cent will be imposed on insurance companies if the claimed payment gets delayed, which will be directly deposited into the farmers' accounts. According to a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, he identified state government delays in releasing premium amounts as the primary cause of payment delays and urged prompt action. The central government will release its share immediately to prevent further delays, with payments being made directly to farmers' accounts from the Kharif season onward. Chouhan attributed the bulk of payment delays to issues such as delayed release of premium amounts by state governments and disputes between insurers and state authorities.
