Infosys mails more appointment letters to engineering grads waiting to onboard
Infosys on Tuesday issued more appointment letters to the remaining engineering graduates who are awaiting onboarding for the last two years. The move comes a day after the Bengaluru based IT major sent more than 1,000 appointment letters on Monday. People close to the development said that Infosys is seeing a better demand environment and the appointment letters will be sent gradually to everyone who is waiting to onboard by December of this year. They said that with Infosys revising its revenue guidance upward to 3-4% for the full year against its earlier guidance of 1-3%, the company now requires more headcount than earlier. Meanwhile, last week, Infosys’ chief executive, Salil Parekh, in an interview to PTI, said, “We changed some dates but beyond that everyone will join Infosys and there is no change in that approach.”

GST on insurance premiums: Karnataka in favour of exemption on products used by working class
Karnataka is expected to pitch for GST exemption on health and life insurance only on such products used by the working and lower middle classes at the upcoming GST Council meeting. The Congress-ruled state is not in favour of a blanket exemption on premium insurance products bought by the higher income groups, according to Krishna Byre Gowda, the state’s revenue minister who represents the southern state on the GST Council. “We are open to the issue,” he told ET, responding to queries on demands for the removal of 18% GST on life and health insurance premium. “We will suggest health and life insurance, which are more of a working class and lower middle class issue, should be looked at positively, regardless of revenue considerations,” Gowda said.

NPA provisions continue to rise sequentially in Q2 amid seasonal weakness
loan loss provisioning by publicly listed banks in the June quarter increased to a four-quarter high led by a select banks including public sector banks (PSBs) such as State Bank of India (SBI) and Central Bank of India and private sector banks such as Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bandhan Bank. The sequential increase can be attributed to seasonal weakness in collections and higher delinquencies in the retail segment. For a sample of 29 banks, provisioning for non performing assets (NPAs) reached Rs 25,737.1 crore in the June 2024 quarter. On a sequential basis, these provisions rose by 11.3%, following an 18.3% increase in the previous quarter. The increase in provisioning in the June quarter was driven largely by the private sector banks, which posted a 38% sequential jump whereas the PSBs reported 2.9% drop in provisions.

Oil prices dropped more than 3% on Tuesday after Bloomberg News reported that a deal was imminent to resolve a dispute that has halted Libyan production and exports, pushing prices to their lowest since around the beginning of the year. The news of more crude supply possibly returning to the market came as prices had already fallen on the belief that demand was being undercut because of sluggish economic growth in China, the world's biggest crude importer.
