RIA gold rush fever is over: Report
Mergers and acquisitions of registered investment advisors continued at a strong, if not spectacular pace, in 2023, with RIA buyers and sellers contending with a turbulent stock market at the start of the year and the increased cost of deal-making as a result of rising interest rates, according to an annual survey by Advisor Growth Strategies, an M&A advisory and management consulting firm.

Air India has changed since its takeover by Tata Group, says CEO Campbell Wilson
Air India has seen a cultural transformation after its takeover by the Tata Group, triggered by infusion of new employees and training, managing director Campbell Wilson said. The takeover of the airline has seen Air India hire new employees and part with some of the older staff. The average age of employees has come down to 34 years from 54 after its privatisation, Wilson said at the Skift India Summit 2024 on Wednesday. «There had been no recruitment in non-flying staff for the last 15 years (before the acquisition in 2022). We have been able to recruit a whole bunch of people not only for necessity but also for their competency and bring down the average age of employees,» he said.

SC expresses concern over an accused in prison without trial
Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed its deep concern on keeping an accused in custody without trial on the pretext of filing successive charge sheets by probe agencies. A division bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna made these remarks, lamenting the Enforcement Directorate's practice of filing supplementary charge sheets in money laundering cases to defeat the accused's right of getting default bail. Justice Khanna verbally remarked that «this is just not done». The bench added that the probe agency ought to ensure commencement of the trial once it files a charge sheet. «How you conduct an investigation is your prerogative. But you cannot say that you will keep filing successive charge sheets and keep the accused in jail without trial,» justice Khanna verbally remarked on the plea of an accused booked by ED in a case of illicit mining. The bench noted that Prem Prakash, the accused, has been behind bars for the past 18 months.

Baar-Baar launch karna padta hai: PM Modi takes a dig at Rahul Gandhi
Startup Mahakumbh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi likened the spirit of entrepreneurship to the realm of politics. Emphasizing the essence of innovation and resilience, he underscored the disparity between traditional political ventures and the dynamic nature of startups. «Many people try to 'launch' startups, especially in politics, sometimes multiple times… The difference between you and them is that you're experimental. You try new ideas after the failure of one launch,» PM Modi said without taking any name. The dig was apparently made on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi's recent endeavors, including the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, are perceived as strategic moves to rebrand himself and assert his leadership within the Congress party, particularly in the lead-up to the forthcoming General elections. Notably, Gandhi is poised to contest again from his current constituency, Wayanad.

Interest on balances held at the bank, previously set at minus 0.1%, will now be plus 0.1%. The central bank, under its relatively new governor, Ueda Kazuo (pictured), also scrapped its policy of yield-curve control, which capped long-term bond yields at 1%.
