Delhi Excise Policy Case: AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj claims witnesses forced, beaten up to change statements
Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been constantly pressuring witnesses to change their statements in relation to the Delhi excise policy case. «The witnesses were constantly forced and beaten up to change their statement,» said the minister, while addressing a press conference. He vehemently dismissed the case as unfounded and rooted in falsehoods. CM Siddaramaiah accuses FM Sitharaman of lying on drought relief fund to Karnataka
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday alleged that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lied when she said that the drought relief fund was not released because the Model Code of Conduct is in force. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Sitharaman sought to defend the Centre saying procedures to release funds had taken time by which time the MCC came into effect. She said that after the Karnataka government submitted a memorandum in October and the inter-ministerial central team conducted a spot assessment, the release of drought relief had to go through a few procedures and that it had taken time. According to the finance minister, the central authorities had written to the Election Commission on March 28 to get prior approval to convene a high-level committee, given that the Model Code of Conduct in force — and the EC's approval is awaited with regard to the grant of drought relief.

Small & midcap stocks may be headed towards a pre-election rally: Abhishek Basumallick
Abhishek Basumallick, Founder & Chief Equity Advisor, Intelsense Capital, points to two sectors which have not been in the public limelight, chemicals and insurance. “While I am pretty bullish on insurance, chemicals sector is getting to the stage where we are probably seeing bottoming out in the businesses and things could turn around in the next 12 months,” says Basumallick. He also points out that IT and banking may also see a turnaround but that will take longer. Let’s discuss the market momentum right now and it is clearly favouring the small and midcaps. What do you make of the way forward because on one hand, there is always the challenge that it is probably getting towards the frothy zone as the valuations are expensive in smallcap and midcap, but the market mood is such that they clearly want to buy more of that? Abhishek Basumallick: The point that you are making is very true as there is uncertainty in the minds of investors. But personally, I think that small and midcaps could be headed for a pre-election rally and it is going to be very interesting to see how the largecaps behave, but the next couple of months should be very interesting for the mid and smallcaps.
