markets UPS Progressive economy President show reports US inflation slows, fed rate cuts expected
US inflation likely continued to slow at the start of the year, helping to feed expectations that the Federal Reserve will find interest-rate cuts more palatable in the coming months. The core consumer price index, a measure that excludes food and fuel for a better picture of underlying inflation, is seen increasing 3.7% in January from a year earlier. That would mark the smallest year-over-year advance since April 2021, and underscore the inroads Fed Chair Jerome Powell and his colleagues have made in beating back inflation.

UPS Man Manufacturing Sustainability Research country International Indian space sector to be turned into a business activity: ISRO chairman
Indian space sector is changing from a «closed» and «secretive» society to an open one and the objective behind it is to turn it into an economic or business activity instead of government programme, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said here on Saturday. The change in mindset has been influenced by how space-related activities in countries like the USA have been turned into an economic activity, Somnath said while speaking at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL) 2024 being held at Kanakakunnu Palace here. The ISRO Chairman said that in the past 60 years, the work of the space sector — from making rockets to satellites — was aimed at societal application, for delivering services that benefit the common man. As a result, the budget of the space programme was «very less» — Rs 10,000 crore, he said during a session of the fifth edition of the MBIFL.

UPS Citi FIVE Celebrity performer rights Arsenal Gunners under pressure: Excessive celebrations after Liverpool win raises stakes for West Ham showdown
Arsenal’s greatest players were divided over the celebrations that followed last weekend’s vital win over Liverpool at the Emirates. Ian Wright was quite justifiably outraged that a few fist-pumps from Mikel Arteta and Martin Odegaard taking a picture of a photographer dominated the post-match discourse. “Why is everybody trying to kill the joy? Don’t kill the joy,” the legendary striker pleaded in a video posted on social media. “There’s so much of the season to go. As soon as Arsenal do anything, they just come under a pileon. It’s like we can’t have any joy....the hatred is just so intense.”

On November 19 last year, an Australian team left Rohit Sharma and his band teary-eyed on a global stage and for the Uday Saharans, Sachin Dhas, Musheer Khans and Saumykumar Pandeys, beating an Aussie team would certainly be very sweet. «No, we are not thinking about revenge. We are firmly focussed on present and we neither want to dwell on past or look too far ahead,» skipper Saharan recently told PTI Bhasha in Benoni. The Aussies have a quartet which could spell trouble for India and they are skipper Hugh Weibgen, opener Harry Dixon, seamers Tom Straker and Callum Vidler, the consistent performers during this edition.

UPS Career CEO economy Remark country folk ET Now GBS 2024: Tremendous scope for mutual fund industry in India, says Jenny Johnson, CEO, Franklin Templeton
Franklin Templeton's top boss Jenny Johnson can't wait for the India opportunity to unfold where she believes the mutual fund industry has tremendous scope for growth and credits her fund management company for spotting the country's vast potential 27 years ago when it became the first foreign fund manager to start operations. «Only 5% of the population has mutual funds. So, we are incredibly excited about how the future is going to be,» said Johnson, chief executive officer of the $1.4 trillion global investment management giant. Johnson, who has lived in India briefly during her long career with Franklin Templeton, said she had really seen the country grow over the past 27 years. «There was a saying India grows at night while the government sleeps. I would laugh at that because I always believed there is huge potential in the economy. 56% of the population is under 25. You have a British-oriented legal system,» she said. Citing how remarkably things have changed, she said the country, which earlier faced headwinds because the government was blamed for slowing things down, now has a tailwind.

UPS Art Booking show classical Sporting How do we want our Gods? More human than human
Ram sport a beard? And if he did, or didn't, how are we to know? If an overwhelming number of people believe that he was clean-shaven, isn't that enough for us to consider the matter settled then — that the deity-king was as smooth on chin as Lord Salman is on chest? The 'beard' issue has been festering in my head for quite some time now. The heady partnership of mob and media may not have picked up on it yet. But a recent conversation about 'How on Earth did we fix the way our gods look?' — including the remarkable transformation of the West Asian, brown-skinned, dark-haired Jesus into a blond Haight Ashbury hippie dude — made my salt'n'pepper thoughts on the matter bristle again. One thing's for sure — as much as one can be sure about things like these: it's certainly unlikely that (wo)man created god in her/his own image. You only have to see your neighbours. Unless, that is, your neighbours' ancestors couldn't stand the idea of normal-looking devis aur devas, so had them 'made' super-real/surreal, desi Barbie-style perfect?
