India on track for lowest monsoon rains in 8 years: Sources
India is poised for its lowest monsoon rains in eight years, with the El Nino weather pattern seen crimping September precipitation after an August that is on track to be the driest in more than a century, two weather department officials told Reuters on Monday. The monsoon, vital for India's $3 trillion economy, delivers nearly 70% of the rain the country needs to water crops and refill reservoirs and aquifers. Nearly half of the farmland in the world's most populous nation lacks irrigation. The summer rainfall deficit could make essentials such as sugar, pulses, rice and vegetables more expensive and lift overall food inflation, which jumped in July to the highest since January 2020. Lower production could also force India, the world's second biggest producer of rice, wheat, and sugar, to impose more curbs on exports of these commodities. «El Nino dampened rainfall in August, and it will also have a negative impact on September rainfall,» said a senior official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

He asserts that disregarding these indications would be unwise. As of Sunday night, Truchelut observed that Idalia was situated in the northwestern Caribbean, displaying signs of intensified thunderstorm activity in proximity to its central circulation center.

In April, Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm of Reliance Retail Ventures, had inked a strategic partnership with beverage can and filling company Ceylon Beverages, promoted by former cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, to co-pack and manufacture Campa soft drinks, and this partnership is expected to be leveraged for Campa’s foray in markets outside India as well, executives aware of the plans said. Ceylon Beverages has partnerships with international, national and regional companies, including those making mineral water, energy drinks, soft drinks and juices. Heating Waters Force Change in Industries That Depend on the Ocean
climate change is reaching its limit. For six of the past seven years, the tropical Pacific Ocean has been close to or cooler than normal and has been absorbing excess heat from the atmosphere, according to Michael McPhaden, senior scientist at the NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in Seattle. Now with a strong El Niño pattern underway in the Pacific, that excess heat is being released to the atmosphere where it is affecting ocean circulation patterns and contributing to the spate of marine heat waves in different parts of the globe, McPhaden said.
