States hike in healthcare expenditure to help meet India's '2.5% of GDP' target
sanitation, is set to achieve the target of 2.5% of GDP by 2024-205 even as the centre’s allocation failed to reach 0.8% of GDP. As states managed to push healthcare expenditure to 1.58% of GDP last year, the combined effort of states and Centre added up to 2.13% of GDP. Public healthcare expenditure includes allocation of health and family welfare, Ayush, research and water supply and sanitation. By this calculation, the centre's expenditure was only 0.58% of GDP and 48% of this was spent on water and sanitation. Allocation for family welfare has gone down to 0.26% of GDP lower than the 2018-19 budget where the centre spent 0.28% of GDP.

Fending off Houthis requires double the fleet, EU force says
Red Sea needs to more than double in size because of escalating attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, the head of the operation said. Four EU vessels have been patrolling the waters off the coast of Yemen since February. In that time, they’ve provided “close assistance” to 164 ships, shot down more than a dozen unmanned aerial vehicles and destroyed four anti-ship ballistics missiles, Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis said in an interview on Wednesday. The Yemen-based Houthis began attacking vessels last year to pressure Israel and its allies over the war in the Gaza Strip. Their campaign has roiled global shipping, forcing many vessels to sail thousands of miles around southern Africa instead — despite the EU operation and US and UK bombing that began in January.

Vivo X Fold 3 Pro review: This modern-day foldable phone comes at a premium
₹1,59,999, it certainly looks the price, with a sleek 5.2mm thickness when unfolded, barely thicker than the USB-C port on the bottom edge. Even when closed, the X Fold 3 Pro’s slimline 11.2mm thickness and 236g weight give it a very regular candy bar phone feel, one that fits easily in palm or pocket without weighing them down. It has Schott Xensation scratch resistance, IPX8 water resistance and a display hinge that’s certified for 500,000 reliable folds and unfolds for added peace of mind.

A car window dressing down
men on a business trip in Rajasthan are in the middle of a desert when their car breaks down. For their longish hike to the nearest town, they each decide to take one thing with them. The first man takes a bottle of water out of the back seat. The second man takes out a paper bag with samosas that they had kept for snacks. The last man unbolts one of the car doors and takes it with him. The first man says to the last man, 'I'm bringing the water because if we get thirsty, we can take a drink. And, of course, it makes sense to bring the samosas in case we get hungry. But why bring a car door?'

D K Shivakumar rules out contesting in Channapatna bypoll
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday ruled out contesting in the Channapatna bypoll. He even wondered aloud why there would be bye-elections in Kanakapura assembly segment from where he is an MLA. Two days ago, Shivakumar said, «A significant change in my political career happened from Channapatna. I have come to Anjaneya temple in Kengal to start a new chapter in my political career.» This gave rise to speculations that he was willing to contest from Channapatna assembly segment, which fell vacant after MLA H D Kumaraswamy won the Mandya Lok Sabha election. BJP MLA and former minister S Suresh Kumar called the purported 'bypoll in Kanakapura' a 'Tughlaq like decision' and wastage of public money.
