Land ahoy: Will the buying craze continue in FY25?
Mint explains what to expect this fiscal: Land deals were down to a trickle before the pandemic in 2020, when the residential sector witnessed a prolonged slowdown. Since 2021, transactions have seen a steady rise, reaching a peak in 2023, mainly led by the residential sector, warehousing and logistics. The spurt in home sales led to more liquidity among developers, who are building a supply pipeline by investing in acquisition of land across the top tier cities.

EV not a fad but a structural change in auto industry: Ravi Pandit, KPIT Technologies
«There is work that is being done on the charging infrastructure. Charging infrastructure needs a lot more work to do and we are also doing some work in that area,» says Ravi Pandit, Chairman, KPIT Technologies. Can you outline for the benefit of our viewers that how has KPIT benefited because of EVs? How much of your total business is coming from EVs? And do you think EV is not just a fad, it is a real deal? We believe that EV is not a fad. EV is actually a complete structural change in the auto industry. Now, there are two-three things which are driving growth for a company like us. One is that EV by itself is a change in the powertrain. So, how do you have a new powertrain, whether it is a battery electric or a fuel cell electric and technologies relating to that, so that is one thing which is really purely related to EV as such.

Chakri Lokapriya on his top bets from manufacturing and capex space & why it’s time to look at metals
Chakri Lokapriya, Managing Partner, RSB LLP, says among T&D companies, Skipper is one of the largest companies globally and in India, they are present not just in manufacturing but also in EPC. The stock has valuations on its side. Demand has been weak for the last two years for well-known reasons. Now the cycle is picking up; Second is JTL Infra, again a bet on the manufacturing theme. They are doing capacity expansion to meet demand and valuations are on its side. These are the bets largely revolving around manufacturing and capex themes.” There are two moving parts, especially when it comes to the commodity construct. A) The rip-roaring ride that we are seeing in metals and B) the uptick in crude that the market is sort of ignoring. What do you make of the move in metals so far? Chakri Lokapriya: If you look at what is happening in metals both domestically and globally, the US data has come out stronger than expected.

Karnataka: Sumalatha Ambareesh to join BJP, refrains from contesting Lok Sabha polls against Kumaraswamy
HD Kumaraswamy, Mandya’s incumbent MP Sumalatha Ambareesh, who won as an independent candidate in the 2019 general elections against his son Nikhil, announced on Wednesday that she would join the BJP and not contest the polls this time. Kumaraswamy is the NDA’s candidate from the constituency for the Lok Sabha polls, and the suspense over Sumalatha’s decision had kept the BJP-JDS coalition on tenterhooks, fearing that votes would be split in the region if she opted to contest independently. “I am not contesting the elections this year but this does not mean I am leaving Mandya. On the contrary you will see me, not as an independent but as someone with the backing of the rank and file of a party whose leader envisages a developed India by 2047,” she said. The BJP, she said, was a natural choice over the Congress, as the party had released funds amounting to around Rs 4000 crore for Mandya district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added, had always treated her with respect as well.
