UPS Waters ICE Glacier Food wellness Universities Groundwater is vanishing worldwide, but it can be rescued
The bulk of Earth’s water, about 97%, is in salty oceans and thus useless for drinking or growing food. Of the 3% that is fresh, most is locked in ice sheets and glaciers, many of which are melting rapidly into the oceans thanks to climate change. A relative few drops of fresh water are available in ponds, lakes and rivers, which are easily accessible but also vulnerable to pollution, overuse and drought. Humanity’s biggest source of fresh water — representing just 0.8% of Earth’s total water — is in underground aquifers. Decades of drought, pollution and overuse are shrinking even that precious supply, and rising sea levels threaten to spoil even more of it with saltwater incursions. A recent survey of groundwater levels at hundreds of wells worldwide found that 71% have fallen since the start of the 21st century. Groundwater loss worsened at more than half of the studied wells during that time.

economy wellness Trade country International Why Pakistan needs to get India to yes on trade
Ishaq Dar raised more than a few eyebrows last week when he said — almost as an aside — that his country’s new government would “seriously look into matters of trade with India”. A resumption of trade would be something of a climbdown for Pakistan, which cut off economic ties when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unilaterally withdrew Kashmir’s special constitutional status in 2019. Until now, Pakistani leaders have insisted they wouldn’t restore relations until the decision was reversed. Dar’s statement should not come as a complete surprise. His party, the Pakistan Muslim League-N, has a very particular class basis: It’s an alliance between the semi-urban petty bourgeoisie and large industrialists such as its leader, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. These constituencies have always seen the benefits — for themselves and for Pakistan — of normalizing trade ties with a large and growing India. Those gains are potentially substantial, especially for a country as desperate for hard currency as Pakistan is today. The World Bank estimated in 2018 that Pakistan’s exports could increase by as much as 80% — about $25 billion at that point — if trade with India reached its potential.

In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, BRS had bagged nine Lok Sabha seats, BJP four and Congress three. All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen had retained Hyderabad. UPS Progressive Extreme economy wellness trends AI could drive up the neutral rate of interest in an economy
As improvements in artificial intelligence (AI) continue apace, so do questions about how AI will influence economies, asset prices and—the question of the moment—interest rates in America: Is AI more likely to make them go up or down? You might think economists would have a simple handle on such a straightforward query, but the both macroeconomics and AI are complex. Nevertheless, I have a bold prediction: Real or inflation-adjusted rates will go up, and for a considerable period of time. The conventional wisdom is that rates tend to fall as wealth and productivity rise in an economy.
